There's a pet shop near my house called paws for thought and usually they are pretty good with the animals. That is, until today :( They have a cage about 2ft by 3ft with 2 rabbits and a long haired male pig who's just absolutly gorgeous and i wish i could rescue him :( I told them that they shouldn't have him with rabbits but the woman obviously thought I was crazy and told me "I've been keeping rabbits and pigs together for years"
What should I do?

You can report them to your local council (they control the pet shop license) It is no longer acceptable in the country (according to RSPCA standards) to keep rabbits and guinea pigs together. You can speak up, because you are right.

print off some info about not keeping them together and take it in to show her, tbh though sounds like she is a "now it all " i hope it gets a good home very quickly, and not with a rabbit x

Oh dear, not again :o
I'd be inclined to tell this woman that what she does with her own animsla is her business but this is not a good advertisement for customers.
Threaten to report them to the council and sorry, I'd have to buy the wee piggy in question :x

Thats awesome, I didn't know that. The cage is tiny and the rabbits are bucking around like rabbits do and that poor guy is going to get squished :( I'm going to phone first thing tomorow. I've been thinking about him all day, if only I had enough room

I so wanted to but I already have 12 in here and no where else to put him :( He was a beauty, long haired ginger and white, anyway, watch this space because at this rate I'll end up getting him!

definately go for it and report it, as much as rabbits are cutr and cuddly they can and do bully piggies, squash and generally distress them. you go girl.grrrr pookie

For goodness sake, when will people learn. They should never be housed together.

Report them to the council. And if it was me i would go back and have a damn good word with the 'know it all lady'.

x.

Result guys, said piggie is now housed alone :)) I had to go back and check and the miss know it all looked online last night and admitted I was right. Haha!

Well done! Piggie lovers 1 ignorant shop owners 0!

It pays to know your rights and standards of care. x

I think it's great that you spoke up - most people just mutter under their breath - but I also think the shop assistant is to be congratulated. It's not easy to admit you were wrong and be prepared to put things right. As much as I don't like to see pets being sold in shops at least this one will be treatig them right from now on.

Well done.

YAY! Well done for speaking up and doing the right thing for the darling piggies health and safety!
