Hello all,

I feel so sorry for Rasher right now... I had Wiiiiieek on me earlier, I was trimming his nails and Rob went and got Rasher out for a cuddle as he thought he "looked sad". He brought him over and sat with him, next to me on the sofa. They were still separated at this point, one pig - one person but could see each other, not within reaching distance.

Within about 20 seconds of him sitting next to me, holding Rasher, Wiiiiieek started chattering his teeth at him...

?/ ?/ ?/

Never done that before, they came to us together as bonded friends so they've known each other for a long time, since Wiiiiieek was a few weeks old, I think. They used to cuddle up to each other and play nicely.

Anyway, I thought it was strange so I didn't let either one of them go over to see the other, we just kept the pig we had on us and tried to distract them from each other. Next thing I knew, Wiiiiieek was literally flying through the air at Rasher! FULL BLOWN FIGHT!

I know you're not meant to, but I panicked - I grabbed Wiiiiieek with my hands, managed not to get bitten and put him in the pet carrier. Poor Rasher has a cut on his cheek and a nick on his nose. :( He was a very good boy and let me look at them and wash them with saline (salt water) even though he kept squinting when I did it, so I think it must have stung 8... poor little boy, he did nothing to deserve that at all! He didn't even try and bite Wiiiiieek back - I checked him over as well while I gave him a stern talking to! No cuts or scratches at all, all Rasher did was try to push him away while he was being bitten! I'm going to keep bathing the cuts with saline solution and then I'll take him to the Vet on Tues when they re-open.

Rob and I both thought that Wiiiiieek was such a nice little pig! :{ Now he wants to get rid of him ... I don't want to get rid of him but if he's going to be so vicious for no apparent reason, I just don't know what to do for the best :(

--- just wanted to get it off my chest...

On a lighter note, I acquired a few extra C+C grids so expanded one of the cages. Mocha is loving it, she's been popcorning all over the place and literally chucking herself up and down the ramp before running around and then doing it again (she's asleep now - must have tired herself out). The other pigs were looking at her like "o....k..." :s

aww bless poor little rasher but I wouldn't get rid of wiiiiieek just because of this. Sometimes when they reach the right age and hormones kick in etc bonds can be broken. Just because he doesn't want to be bonded with rasher doesn't mean that he can't be bonded with any pig. Do you have space for any more piggies? Would it be possible to consider neutering to live with females or try boar dating at a local rescue?

I agree with Lady Kelly, I wouldn't get rid of him because of this. It maybe he's hit the hormones and his little body is full of testerone! Perhaps they can live side by side or with new friends.

I wouldn't get rid of him. How about they live side my side for the time being and if he has hit his hormonal stage, let him ride it out and then try bonding him with another boar...or get him neutured and he can have some wives perhaps.

Two of my boars fell out recently and as we don't have the space or money for anymore piggies, they live side by side so they don't get lonely. To be honest, they seem fine living separately, in fact, Nibbler is much happier and is thriving. You just have to make sure you pay them lots of attention.

no, I don't want to get rid of him either... I think Rob was just cross with him for hurting Rasher the way he did. He hasn't said it again today...

I am having them both neutered anyway but was waiting until I get the ok from the Vet as, even though Wiiiiieek is old enough, they said his :red haven't descended fully yet so it would be easier and safer to wait a little while longer - about a month, 2 more weeks to go until they see him next. I wanted him neutered 1st because Rasher is a good natured pig anyway and I was worried about Wiiiiieek for the reasons said on the replies - right age, hormones kicking in etc...

I was planning to put Rasher in with Caramel (so two Teddies together) once the 6 week safety period has passed and put Wiiiiieek in with Mocha.

I have a lot of grids and correx and have put Wiiiiieek in a new cage I built last night, they are now both chattering their teeth if they see each other but Wiiiiieek sometimes launches himself at the bars to try and get to Rasher. Rasher just looks at him :( I've moved the cages further away from each other and they seem happy again now they can't see each other very well. If they calm down, I may move the cages back gradually...

Rasher is 1 year and 10 months old and Wiiiiieek is 5 months old now.

we had a squabble with our 2 sister sows yesterday, they bicker now and again between each other, but if we have them on our laps or holding them and they see/sniff each other they fight ?/ no idea why, but its every time, as soon as we put them down on the floor or back in their hutch or run, they are fine together again. we now know not to get to close to each other if we have one each, and definitely cannot hold 2 at the same time.

Hi again all...

Rasher's cuts are well on the mend, can't even see them anymore/ no blood...

I'm still washing them with saline just in case. He's fine, eating and drinking, pooing and weeing etc...

They still chatter and everything if they see each other *sigh* will keep trying

Aw poor guinea pigs

I would blame Wiiieek for it, it's not really his fault. It might seem like he had no reason, but he doesn't think like a person, it's just natural for him to act like that around another male guinea pig.
