Junior Guinea Pig
Rodney is 2 years old and was absolutely fine until Friday night when we found him in a bad way. He'd had some sort of stroke or attack and we thought he was dead at first. He was hardly moving and felt very stiff. He drank some water and ate a little bit of cucumber overnight, I'd also noticed his mouth was turned up at one side.
We took him to the vet first thing yesterday. He can't use his back legs at all and is very very wobbly. The vet was v nice and said he didn't want to put him to sleep just yet because when he tried moving Rodney's legs, he was making an effort to move them back and so he thought there might be hope. He did seem a bit more alert.
He was given an anti-inflammotory jab and the vet told us to wait til Monday. If he moves a bit better and his appetite comes back more we shouldn't put him to sleep.
But he seems to have gone downhill again. He won't eat and is hardly moving.
Having read Peter Gurney's book, I've tried Osteocare on the off chance that it would help but I don't think it is going to do anything and I'm really reluctant to give it to him now. He's not even making any effort to move his mouth when I feed it to him
I'm not really asking for advice here because I think I know what is best for him. Just wondered if this has happened to others? It has really shocked me how he could deteriorate like that overnight
