I posted earlier this week about Rusty who had
an infection in his eye.

Unfortunately we took him back to the vets this morning and it was decided that it would be kinder to put him to sleep.

I am devastated but in my heart I know I have done the right thing.

The infection had spread rapidly to the other eye, his nose, his ears and chest. Despite the best efforts of the vet, the antibiotics
were not working and he was deteriorating fast.

This leaves me with anot
2 weeks ago I bought a new baby piggy as Rusty lost his mate about 2 months ago. I wasn't going to get another one
as I was trying to get out of that never ending cycle of always replacing a lost piggy with a new one, but I couldn't bear the thought of
Rusty being lonely so I gave in and got a baby.

So now we are again left with one and he is only 14 weeks old and I really don't know what to do.

I have thought about perhaps trying to rehome him so that I will not have to go through this heartache again.

We lost our beloved cat a couple of months ago as well and I feel I am in a constant state of bereavement these days.

I know this is a lot to ask, but does anyone out there know of anyone who would be willing to take on a 14 week baby male piggy?

Sorry for such a long post but I'm sure all you piggy lovers understand what I am going through at the moment.

I'm so sorry to hear you lost Rusty.

Loss and bereavement is a downside to owning such lovable pets.

I'm afraid most forum members are up to maximum capacity with the number of guinea pigs they already have .

Do you have a rescue centre nearby ?

You could talk to a rescue centre about getting him rehomed - or maybe even foster for them ...

I'm so sorry.

I would have a look at our rescue locator. A rescue will make sure that any potential home is checked and they will be able to pair him up with a friend.

I'm really sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with you.

I'd offer to take in the little one, but I have sows, meaning he wouldn't have a companion here. Do try your local shelters though. Good luck in rehoming him.

I'm really sorry for your loss. I know firsthand that it can be heartbreaking to go through cycles of loss with your pets, particularly when they come in clusters. I know that several times in the past I've said that having small pets is too hard emotionally, as they don't live all that long but you love them just as much as anything else so it's a constant heartbreak. However, the alternative of not having pets always leaves me feeling that something is missing, so somehow I always end up with more, even knowing that I'll get my heart broken at the end. But I know I've gone through various phases of, "I just can't do this again!", so your post rang a chord with me. If you're really sure that you need a break at this point in time, I hope you can find a good home for your little guy. ((HUGS)) to you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you find a solution for your young boar. X
