Poor Storm has made umpteen trips to the vets recenty with UTI problems which just won't go - see previous posts. Have been told she will now be on baytri and metacam for life from 2 different vets.

Now she seems to have something wrong with her foot!

Over last couple of days she was not moving about as much as normal, although eating and drinking and running after treats! Been keeping a close eye and planned to take her to vets anyway. Had her out day before yest to do antibiotics etc as normal, all fine, carefully checked her out. Yest am all fine, picked her up last night and she seems to have a sore paw. It looks like she has got a poop stuck to it and is not flinching etc when this is touched, but when OH tried to get it off it didn't want to go and looked red and sore underneath.

Booked her a vet's appt later today. Do I soak the foot and try and get it off? Do I leave it to them? She is moving about on it as normal and touching it is not causing her any pain. I am assuming because she is spending most of her time in one corner she has picked up a poop on her foot more easily? Is this bumblefoot or would this cause pain? It has only started yest?

Any ideas from all you clever people? Storm would appreciate it, esp as there is STILL blood in her urine, although she is no longer squeaking in pain. x

Aw, poor baby. Has she had x-rays done to rule out a bladder stone ? Just a thought as one of my boys had this problem - in hindsight, wish we'd have not have wasted time on antibiotics etc. but had to eliminate the causes of blood in pee and pain over a three week period. Luckily, he is now fit and well after surgery so is worth a shot ?/
Hope little Storm sorts her paw out - so heartbreaking to see them in any kind of distress :0
Hugs to you both x>>

I agree with Guinea Pig Slave on the x-ray.

Also will your vet consider septrin rather than baytril? I find it more effective and also more palatable, so guineas take it easier.

Thankyou for replies. She has had ultrasound, x rays etc and showed nothing conclusive. Vets so far have not wanted to operate because of where it is - seems to be attached.very close to kidney. Went back again to vets last night and she has a minor foot infection - if untreated vet said would lead to bumblefoot. She has it as has been lethargic at moment. Now back onto baytril 0.4 twice a day and 5 drops of metacam plus need to bathe foot in salt water. Did ask about septrim, vet said would consider but wanted to try baytril again first. Back again next week so keep your fingers crossed. She is starting to run away whenever she sees me at the moment, and is hating the syringing! xx

How awful for the poor little girlie. Maybe that's a small tumor on her foot? Did she get sick after being outdoors? How old is she? I hope the medicine helps her.

Don't think it is a tumour, she has it on both feet. They do look better since the vets yest - she got pus out of one and cleaned the other. Storm was so good! Luckily it is not hurting her at all, she didn't even squeak when the vet got the pus out and she lets us touch her paw without flinching etc and is walking fine on it.

She is an indoor piggie and is over 4 years old. She has been a little lethargic with the ongoing UTI problems so I think not moving as much has caused it after reading about feet/bumblefoot here.

How is Red doing? He is soo cute!

Aw bless the little sweetie - hope Storm gets better very soon, they love to scare us into spoiling them even more when off colour ;)
Hugs to Storm from us all here x>>

Awww I'm sorry to hear this. You must be worn out with fretting and practically bankrupt with vet bills :(

Unfortunately, I know exactly how you feel. I have th world's most sickness-prone piggy - URI, URI, allergic reaction to anti-biotics, gut stasis, URI, pneumonia, UTI and most recently stomach cramps (in that order). Sounds like you've got a scrapper though as well so best of luck and I'm sure she's extremely appreciative of all your care :)

She told us it was her time to go. She was fighting so hard but was squeaking in pain when passing due to the UTI, even though she had baytril and metacam. Last night she cuddled up to me and husband and ate beans and wanted to be fussed. Today she sat in her hay nest and wasn't interested. She snuggled into me and hand fed food but it was obvious she was ready to go. Her feet were more sore because she wasn't up to moving, she had lost more weight and we could tell she couldn;t fight any more. We took her to the vets and she made the same decision we did. I knew I couldn;t be selfish but had to let her go before she deteriorated further and was in constant pain.

I love you so much Storm, I hope you are popcorning free at the rainbow bridge. I know Rogue will be waiting for you. I will post properly to say goodbye on the bridge forum too.

Sleep well snuggly piggle x

On a practical note - we have syringes, metacam and baytril. If it would help a rescue please PM me. Oh - and some feet stuff from gorgeous guineas that ironically arrived this morning and I haven't even opened it! I know it seems the wrong time but I know Storm would rather help other piggles in need xx

You did what was right for Storm, and that is the ultimate act of love and compassion.

As difficult as it is to do that, it sounds like it really was for the best.

Sending you some (((((hugs))))
