Poor little terry isn't well. He looks depressed and isn't eating much. He's not grooming himself and keeps sitting in his pee leaving his fur all soiled. He has only been grooming himself when he's on my knee getting attention and will only eat from my hand. He's been goin wild for my hands, lickin non stop and shouting for me to come back wen I go away from him. I got him some excel pallets an dandilion hay last night which he ate. I've also been syringing him a vitamin solution for piggies and a pro biotic which luckily he loves. I can't figure out what's up with him no lumps, teeth look fine, no cries of pain when he pees, no sign of biddies etc

He's a fussy pig anyway with his food. He gets bored easily and I have to alternate what he gets. He's still coming To the front of his cage for food but turns his nose up at everything. There's no obvious signs of illness apart from his behaviour. Any ideas?

He's booked into the vet sat morning can't get him in sooner I'm in the dentist myself tomorrow.

Have you been weighing him daily to see whether he is eating enough? Have you checked his back teeth?

I must admit that my knowledge is limited, but I would have him checked for heart problems, potential tumors or a build up of bacteria/parasites in the guts. It is very frustrating when there are no clear cut signs, but you know that something is not right.

I hope that one of the bigger guns will be along later to give you more ideas in which directions to investigate.

He's lost some weight yes you can see it just looking at him. He's always been a thin compared to the others but yes he has lost weight. I was wondering if it's back teeth to. He's snatching the syringe off me so he does want to eat.

Please feed him some softened pellets - it does sound like he wants to eat but can't so teeth would be my first thought.

If you can maintain his weight and strength by giving additional feeds of the pellets he will do better with any treatment he might get at the vet.

Add some warm water to 2 tablespoons of the pellets, allow to stand for 10 mins to absorb the water. He may tuck into them once softened but if he still struggles add more water and syringe it in - aim for 20-30 ml per feed (120ml over 24 hr period if he is not eating for himself).

Please weigh daily to ensure he is eating enough to maintain his weight, or start putting some on hopefully.

Yeah that's what I've been doing as of last nite I'm offering him it on a spoon which he's taking. How do I check his back teeth?

This needs to be done by a vet as it requires, as a minimum, an otoscope and an experienced eye.

Can you get him to the vets any sooner? Most operate an evening surgery (where I work every other night there's a vet consulting until 8pm, even up to 9pm on a monday) or to the saturday surgery (again, where I work, we have vets consulting until 4.30pm on a Saturday although most people assume we close at 12, or aren't open at all!)

Whatever is wrong with him, the sooner he is seen, the better chance there is of fixing whatever is wrong.

Unfortunately we don't have any vets open late. I may e able to take him in the morning buts it's not likely I have and impacted infected wisdom tooth.

Once they start struggling to eat then it needs sorted pretty quick or they loose too much weight quite quickly.

Juggling a vet and a nasty wisdom tooth is a challenge though!

Wet pellets are good. My boys like them warm too.

I'm so happy! Come home to find terry happily chatting away with hi neighbour Emily. Some of his veggies have been eaten, he's been at his food bowl and is currently on his water bottle which is laced with a piggy multi vit solution! I'm baffled! He does this every now and then stops eating and that but this is the longest he's ever done it for !

Oh gosh they do scare us !
I'd be precautionary and watch his weight and offer him some mushy pellets (as Suzy suggested) for awhile anyways to build up his weight and strength.... maybe worth the visit to see the vets on saturday just so they can give him the once over.

COME ON TERRY MUNCH UP! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Hope your impacted wisdom teeth get sorted soon......UGH it is very painful and the taste is :)>>>
HUGS XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I left him a big pile of celery leaves last nite he's ate most of that and just had some mush. Yeah I'm gonna go the vets anyway see what they think. Little !

Been out and bought him assorted goodies they've not had for a while! He's eating now with gusto! Melon, apple, pair, brocli, curly lettuce and red gem lettuce!

He's eating the skin on the melon so I don't think there's an issue with his teeth.

As for me me not so simple all my wisdom teeth have to come out! Eek! On the waiting list which is JUNE!

Yes, I've had issues with this tooth for 6 years! Also gall stones for 3 years. They send me for referrals etc but don't do the surgery. I complained to them medical negligence blah blah met the complaints manager today before my appointment she actually said to me " we got you appointments what more do you want" I had to tell her to go away before I lost my rag!

Yeah it's a joke my dentist advised I go private unfortunately I don't have 1500 lying about!

pleased Terry is feeling better, but poor you with your teeth. Hope they are not hurting too much, June is too far away. See if you can get on a can cellation list xx

Hes shaking :( not constantly but twice now hes done it on my knee he's got a bit of a squirt bum to trying to get hold of the vet

Oh I just saw this thread. I am so sorry your little one is unwell. How worrying for you. I cannot believe you still have trouble with your teeth! I remember you telling me months ago. How awful for you. It is so unfair you have to wait so long. :(

I know I'm going to ask the vet if hey can give me a dental!

Spoke to the vet they've said as he is still eating and movin about etc wait until the morning. He's currently sat on my couch (I'm on the floor, go figure) nestled between two cushions trying To eat the tassel!

Aww little munchkin. He sounds like he is quite bright in himself which is a great sign.

Just here now he's had an anti biotic injection and pain killer waiting for the little to do a pee so she can test it she said his breathing is laboured and he's underweight she's had a look at his back teeth as much as he'd let her one us slightly overgrown but probably cos he's eating much :(
