Had to take Tia to the vets today, she's lost a bit of hair on her rear, & it's a bit flaky, they have given her Zeno 450, but that's what they gave me last time & it almost healed, but it's worse this time. She is very subdued at the moment & she's cuddling a teddy. She is the boss of the herd & normally she wouldn't be seen with a teddy thats beneath her. Treated them all now it's got to have been the hay again, the vet said do we spray the hay. Didn't know you had to spray it. She says that Tia is probably in pain, but she didn't give her anything. Is there any I can buy for her?

You could ask the vet for some metacam for pain relief. If the vet says shes in pain then they should be happy to prescribe it. I would ring them up.

You don't have to spray the hay at all... Strange idea that I have never encountered. What did they say it was mites?

You do have a recommended vet not so far from you are you using them?

Didn't say what it was unfortunately it wasn't my normal she excellent. So I'm happy with this one. Other I will do is find out my good vets name & request her everytime unless it's an emergency.

I would see if the vet can give you Metacam as she sounds uncomfortable. If the vet is mentioning the hay they may think it is hay mites, is she scratching at all? if it is hay mites I would bin your current hay and buy new if you can. What is she bedded on?

If its the only hay you have available at the moment &its hay mites.
There is a member on here who microwaves their hay &this would solve the issue short term until you can get a fresh batch.

I will have a think &see if I can remember who it is- I think they microwaved it for 30-60seconds.

Similar to a wheat bag I guess &keep a close eye on it.

Surprised the xeno hasn't worked, but I guess if the mites are being added daily on the hay its not getting the chance on the new batches.

Is the hair loss on her sides at all?
How old is she?
Is the skin normal colour underneath or red/inflamed?
I would definitely ask for painkillers for her or it may affect her appetite &dentistry if she's in pain.

Healing vibes &speedy recovery to her :-D

lot of scratching, they all are I've throw all the other hay & replaced it mountain hay. They can't have enough of that, first time I've tried it. She seems to have picked up tonight maybe it was the travelling that upset her.

Hays gone. That's the second time they have had mites from the hay. I did hear about microwaving hay, but you shouldn't have to Grrr she only went this morning for the xeno, I've explained a bit more on Helen post.
