It is Septrin isn't it? that is usually tolerated well. Sounds like the probiotic is really helping though. Hopefully the vet will agree to 3, especially as she is tolerating it well. Also her immune system is compromised at the mo due to the lice so best to do a longer course to be sure.

Yes 48 hours sounds good. Then another clean after she has her bath.

Yeah, the new brand double strength one, Sulfatrim. We're trying to shovel as much into her as we can after she had diarrhea that first weekend.

Okay, perfect, will be nice to just relax with her a bit this evening tbh. I am exhausted. Not that I wouldn't do it all over again, don't get me wrong. I'm here for this baby as much as she needs. But I am running on empty lol.

Sad thing is, I think this might have long term consequences for her. She's not gaining weight as a baby pig should, despite us trying our best. There's nothing wrong with her appetite, she'll eat like a velociraptor. But she's only gained 25g total since we got her. She'd actually lost weight in the first 48 hours, so then it was a fight to stop that. It's creeping on a couple of grams a day, but I know it's not enough for her age :(
 
That's good stuff. I think it can affect them a bit more than the old Septrin but nothing like others do like Baytril.

You must be shattered, it has been never ending.

Bless her, she may always be a bit smaller, but you never know she may have a growth spurt once all this is over.

I've been really impressed actually, it's taken a while to work but it's doing the job and it's so much safer for her. It seems quite palatable too, even if it isn't banana. It's just a clear suspension and she will open her mouth for the syringe once I've prodded her lips a couple of times. It seems that she makes a leap in progress about every three days on it.

I'm very very tired lol. The longest I have been without a sick pig in the last year is about 3 weeks. Quietly optimistic we'll be in the clear soon though.

I'm hoping once we phase out the loxicam and ABs we'll see a more rapid gain. I just keep free feeding her pellets and lots of readigrass alongside her normal hay, and she's getting carrot daily too atm (figured short term it wouldn't do any harm).

I really hope things get better for you and you can have a good while without any illness. It is horrible when it is one after the other.

Short term it will be fine, the Emeraid will help with weight gain too. I think some PEWs are petite, my Emma is and has never been over a kg (she is almost 6 now) though our late Maddie was also a PEW and she was ginormous.

She's so well behaved. She loves the loxicam, i have to beg the syringe back from her. And the bisolovon goes down a treat on some lettuce too. She hated the probiotics, but I hide it mixed in with the Emeraid, so that problem was solved fast hehe. She's just the sweetest natured little thing. Every day her personality shows a little more as she gets better and better. this morning she wheeked in response to my voice for the first time, she's learning the stupid baby voice I do means food XD

That's interesting to know about PEWS. She's my first, so it's all new to me, as is having a baby.

On a random change of subject, is it Simon in Northampton you go to for dental work?

Yes it is, he does regular dentals on 2 of mine.

Haha I wouldn't put it past her XD

Does he do the work conscious? (Had a steep learning curb with dental issues this year, so trying to find better options in case I ever need help again).
 
He does where possible but there is the odd case every now and then were a whiff of gas is needed. He is worth his weight in gold, my Tim would not be here without him, he removed his eye 2 years ago due to a retrobulbar abscess. His wife Kim is great too and also does conscious dentals.
 
Okay, worth knowing. I have lost 3 girls this year that I believe was down to shoddy surgery... I'll have a bit more of a dig about into his practice. Thanks :)
 
No problem. Am sorry you have had bad experiences. Simon has operated on 2 of my sows too, both emergency spays.
 
My fault for not finding a more competent vets. I moved house and away from Coastway (making the damned effort to go back there now though)... Hard, hard lesson learned... my OH will be driving soon though, so if I need to get to Northampton, I will get to Northampton. All I ever hear is what miracle workers they are :)
 
People travel from Scotland to see them. My local vets are good for basic stuff but we always travel to Northampton for anything more complex.
 
Do they have overnight facilities for the piggies? It would be a good 5 hour journey for us and really, we'd have to find a hotel, which we all know is not going to accept rodents >.<
 
Oh no... The breeder is advertising pigs for sale again. Including two I know for a fact have been in contact with my Ceridwen and are bound to have lice at the very least...

I have had pigs stay overnight but I think they have stayed at the Maddocks when they need monitoring. Am sure there was someone on here that stayed in a hotel with their pig once.

This is where we're at with Ceridwen's big wound now. It's pretty much healed but there is no sign of new hair growth. I think this will be a permanent scar.

Frustratingly, she seems to be developing a new scab on the end of her nose. I'm trying to clean it and cream it, but I am extremely wary of getting any moisture near her nostrils as her URI isn't quite gone yet.

I'm so frustrated. The vet is reluctant to prescribe oral antifungal meds due to the harshness on her tummy, she's still not sure it's fungal at all, she's leaning towards just itching from the lice. I am a bit at a loss as to what to do.

So so frustrated. Feels like two steps forward, one step back...
 
If she now has a scab on her nose would the vet reconsider? It is just not that common to get a scab there from lice. I had all 15 pigs on Itrafungol a few years ago, we didn't have any tummy issues but not sure if we had any really young pigs at the time.

I'll see if I can get a call with her today and ask. I'm due to pop in Saturday to pick up the replacement tube of selemectin anyway
 
Spoken to Celine again, she's agreed that we need to start oral treatment for fungus using itraconazole. It's the US brand so Sporanox.

Also suggested to nebulise with diluted F10 solution to try and shift the last of the URI. So I'll be off to buy a nebuliser as well.
 
Also if you don’t have f10 already rather than buy the solution for the nebuliser buy the concentrate as it’s really useful.
 
She's going to provide me with the F10 and saline and show me how to do it all when I pick the meds up Saturday. I have her carrier, can I use this? It's quite small, specifically designed for piggies. I don't want her to overheat.
 
I am really scared again. Celine seemed concerned the itraconazole would be harsh on her stomach... and the nebulizer seems quite extreme... I do really really want her to get better. But I am worried about doing more harm than good.
