Poorly Boy With Odd Symptoms

He reacts to the sound. I can move my hand around his face and virtually touch his eyeball with no reaction though. I have no idea why he appears so afraid of his cage suddenly.

Eddie had something else at the vets, it was a type of single dose stuff designed to do a similar thing though.

He has been eating by himself which is great! But then I cleaned his cage out and moved his food back to the opposite side again out of reach of the shelf and he was very unhappy. When I put him on the floor of the cage he simply freaks out and hides. I had to put him back on his shelf with a fleecy blanket and all food and drink within reach.

Don't worry, virtually all of that food went in his mouth! He made a mess anyway though :)
 
It does sound like it could be a sight problem, can you see any signs of cataracts?
 
Best to speak to the exotic vet about it when you see them.

Do you know if he has ever had a history of fungal? My Barney has had systemic fungal issues and to say he is away with the fairies is a bit of an undertstatement.

When I bought him from the pet shop 4.5 years ago he was a scabby little boy, which went away by itself after a while. I don't know if this was fungal. He has sometimes had a bit of dry flaky skin and the itchies. What behaviour has Barney shown in response to it?
 
He went through a phase of bullying the others and now he is just not with it at all and you wave your hand round his face and there is no reaction. He is happy though. There are mixed feelings in the vet world about systemic fungal issues but my own vet has agreed with it and he has had a course of Itrafungol to dampen things down. There is a lot of veterinary information appearing about it too, I know of a pig that had a history of it who died recently and when their vet did a post mortem they did a different type of culture to test for fungal issues and Candida albicans were found in the lungs.
 
No but he is much better than he was, just lives in his own little world. Not saying this is what is wrong with your boy, just that it is something that affects behaviour.
 
Completely forgot to update this: Eddie has now been to see the exotics vet. His overall health is good and he has no serious underlying problems, which is great! He improved to the point of eating by himself as well. However it did become evident that he might have had a tiny bite on his bum :o Possibly from an ant or something. There was a little discoloured dot for a few days last weekend, and that side of his bum appeared to swell up enough to be noticeable. The vet gave me some metacam to help with that, and he has his last dose tomorrow. He is still not 100% himself but is virtually there and is holding his weight at about 1.01kg.

After all that, its possible this was all caused by a tiny bite on his bum! Poor boy! If that was the case then no wonder he was so upset.
