Well it was big clean out day again and I usually do the weekly health checks at the same time so you can imagine my horror to see the state of my poor Bumbles back paw...

Along with this she has a filthy bum again so I searched on here for urine burns and it looks like that may well be it. So off I have popped to Gorgeous Guineas and ordered some of their ointment to help ease it. She is walking, running and kicking me like normal and there doesn't seem to be any pain from me touching it either which is a good sign.

I really wish her and Peter would stop lying in their own filth! both of them have dirty bums again too rolleyes I think I will start changing their hideys positions daily to try and stop them keep lying in the same place all the time.

Any other suggestions on how to help heal and prevent this would be appreciated.

Oh poor little baby. That looks so sore. What bedding do you use?

Bertie loves laying in his own wee! I have to clean his wee areas and his hay every day or he gets the same. I use a tiny bit of vaseline on his little feet.

Oh noes! Poor Bumble! I've never had to deal with this so can't offer any suggestions - sorry! Sounds like you've done the right thing with GG though, and like piggyfan said it might be good to think about your bedding, what do you use? If you can get something to wick away the pee quickly it might be better on their bottoms and feet?

I use fleece bedding with an absorbent mattress topper sewn in on the ground floor and then newspaper which gets changed every other day upstairs. I don't know how she manages it, all the other 3 are perfectly fine, not even the hint of redness

When Marble had urine scald the vet said to use vet bed. I am currently preparing vet bed by washing it. Maybe you could try it too?

Certainly will do if she carries on like this... she is my walking liability... if anything is going to happen then 9 times out of 10 its Bumble rolleyes

I'm hoping to be house hunting again soon and will be setting up a guinea pig shed if that happens so trying to avoid too much changing at the moment but if its their health then of course I'll do it

Humm, that should be ok on their little feet? Maybe a case of lazy-itus?! Hehe!

I think her scalds will go with the change to vet bed. What a shame she lies in her wee.

Yes she does seem a little lazy at times... and not very lady like of her either... you would have thought Queen Bea would have taught her that boars don't like ladies that smell of pee
