Hi everyone,

Cookie who is 6 years old and suffers from heart disease and arthritis (on medication for) has been unwell the past week.
It started with noticing that he's sitting in his urine and seeming lethargic, so I weighed him and he had lost weight. I then started to notice him not eating hay nor pellets, along with barely drinking, he used to drink a lot because he is on a diuretic and the water just wasn't going down as much.

I started to critical care him, put him on baytril and took him to the vets last week, he seemed fine there and my vet wasn't too concerned as he is geriatric and believed the hot spell we had had knocked him around because this is when it all started.

I feel like he just isn't getting any better, he hasn't put much weight back on, if it wasn't for me critical caring him I don't think he'd be here. His poos have become smaller but still formed. It is so hard as he looks at me waiting for his veg still, which he is still eating and he takes the syringe food so well. It's like he wants to eat but is too lethargic. I put him on the grass earlier and he was munching away but I noticed his can't move his back left leg very well. He's just an old man and I feel he's dying of old age. I don't feel like he is in pain but as we know guineas hide this well, I am starting to give him some metacam incase.

I'm taking him back to the vets tomorrow and I guess the question is when is enough enough? I love him to bits and so does his friend Teddy who never leaves his side, but I don't want him to suffer, it's just heartbreaking and I don't want to admit defeat :(

@Amysguineapigs What medication is he on? I've surprised to hear thag he isn't on Metacam daily for his arthritis. Not movinf his leg is a pain of pain.

A past boar of mine started to walk slower and not use of his back legs. An xray confirmed arthritis and he had Metacam twice daily. He was pretty sprightly afterwards for a 7 year old, jogging around the cage (not quite running) and standing up at the bars.

He might have pain in his jaw for it, arthritis doesn't just occur in legs.
