Hello All
Dont know what to say really accept my beloved Darcy is poorly taken ill quite quickly mix of symptoms really, going off his legs.
He been vets today and has metacam etc the usual,he is still eating and piggyfied but not himself at all.
I should be use to this by now piggies can go off quickly with no signs but its still hard.
Please remember Darcy in your prayers today.i love him so much.
Helen :(

I'm sorry to hear about Darcy, he is such a stunning boar. Fingers crossed hes okay!

Awww :( Poor Darcy, sending him lots of huggles and get well soon kisseys from me and the boys, will pray for good health for Darcy tonight, keep strong little one x

I am sorry Helen. I'm always on edge when pigs have weak wobbly legs, it is a real concern. Did the vet offer any thoughts, other than providing the pain relief?

I am at work on 11 hour shift ! so rachel took him the vets my normal vet who knows darcy was not on.He seemed unsure...as some can be who dont specialise in cavies mallethead. He thought swollen paws could be to do with shavings....but darcy never had any problems there,or he could have had stroke or just some infection. So he given him metacam which is good and baytril, not so good.In keeping with most piggie owners i try to do, most piggie first aid myself or through cavie friends.I will call my rodentologist for advice tomorrow !
Rachel called me Darcy is eating and doing piggie things just still very weak.
I have 19 cavies and the rest are fine.
Helen xx

Ok, if you can keep us up to date we'd appreciate it. :)

Obviously I don't know all Darcy's symptoms, but would question heart from what you have said (swollen paws, weak legs).

Poor little Darcy, hang in their little fella, mummy is doing all she can to help you. Sending hugs and kisses for Darcy, get well soon.x>>

Hello friends
I am devastated to tell you Darcy had to be put to sleep this afternoon as he went downhill since yesterday and i knew he was suffering.
He has not been able to feed or drink himself for a couple of days and was being cared for by us.Its been awful and very bizarre what was the problem ?but i guess we are learning all the time.
I thankfully discussed it with my vet this afternnon and she made the best decision for him and i trust her for it.
He was the most gentle, loving guinea pig he was my first rescue piggie and went from skittish lonely hutch to a lovely life with Madge and Molly.Madge went with Darcy to the vets and sat with him as he passed away...oh dear i am full again.
The vet thinks it could have been heart failure through an infection of some kind. The worst thing is that i am stuck on an 11 hour shift today i had made an appt for the morning but my daughter called me to say he was fittting and worse,so i made decision to let him go today as i could not bear him to suffer another night.I will cuddle him later he was an intelligent piggie and i am sure he would have done the same for me.
Thank you Darcy my life is better for having known you
Mum x
