hello I noticed last night that my frankie pigs eye is a little bit swollen and red in the corner nearest to his nose, there was a tiny amount of dried white stuff under it this morning but really tiny amount, he's booked in at the vets at 11.50 but I'm really worried about him. It's not very noticeable but it's there so thought it's best to have it checked as it's Sunday tomorrow and don't fancy leaving it. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem before? I did try and get a picture but because it's so small my camera wouldn't focus that close.
 
Make sure the vet checks for any foreign bodies and adds some stain to the eye to look for any scratches or ulcers.

It sounds like a possible hay poke injury which are usually easy to treat with anti inflammatory eye drops such as isathal and a lubricant such as lubrithal to prevent further abrasion.

It could also be a touch on conjunctivitis which has similar treatment.

You are doing the right thing in having it seen promptly, so your vet can start the correct treatment straight away. I hope that Frankie's eye will react to his eye gels/drops within a few days, as usual with eye injuries - they deteriorate very quickly, but they also heal quite quickly, too. All the best!
 
Thank you for your replies he's been given drops twice a day so hopefully that will clear it up. I get so worried about my pets hate thinking of them in pain makes me ill and can't sleep so always like to have even the smallest thing checked out.
 
Sorry I can't offer medical help, just wanted to say I sympathise and best of luck during the recovery process. I worry about my pigs too, this forum has been a godsend. I'm sure he'll be just fine xoxo
 
I've had my fair share of eye problems in piggies. My vet usually prescribed Isathil (I think that is how its spelled) and its very good for things like minor injuries to the eye and conjunctivitis. Sending healing vibes, I hope the drops help!

That's the drops frankie was given too, glad they are good hopefully he'll be okay soon bless him, you've made me feel so much better now you've said that, thank you :) x
 
Brilliant. Sounds like your vet knows what they are doing. Its a very good eye ointment.
