my guinea pig has a sore foot and leg today, it has stopped walking completely now. can anyone give me any advice
:)p

Hiya welcome, sorry your guinea is not well. I'm sure someone will be along soon to help. Maybe a few more details could help - any swelling, redness, open wounds etc. Also other symptoms - appetite, weight loss. Hope your piggy is ok xx

Welcome to the forum, I'm sorry your guinea pig has this problem. In order to advise effectively, it helps to know a lot more information, so if you could answer the following questions it would help us to get a good idea of the situation. :)

How old is he?
Which foot/leg is sore?
Does it look swollen?
Does it hurt him when you touch it?

And when you say he has stopped walking completely now, do you mean he is unable to walk at all, or he just won't put any weight on that sore leg at all?

She is about 15 weeks old, it is sore to touch because she will try to push your hand away, it is slightly swollen. It is the left leg

your guinea pig needs a visit to the vet. It may have a break or a sprain from a fall or a leg caught in something, and may need some combination of anti-biotics, anti-inflammitories and pain relief, whatever your vet reccommends.

In the mean time, confine your guinea pig to a small area, to restrict movement and lessen the stress on the leg. Keep a good eye on its eating, drinking, pooping and peeing.

best of luck, let us know how the vets visit goes

She cannot walk i dont think because she seems to be hungry but cannot get to it so i have had to put the food in front of her

It's a little worrying that she seems to be "collapsed" for the most part and fully unable to walk. Even pigs with one leg that is painful and injured usually adapt to moving around on three legs; although they may be a bit wobbly at first, they tend to persevere.

Is it a front or back leg that is swollen? Does it feel hot around the swelling, or just normal body temperature?

I agree with redd1800's post - restrict her cage space and make a vet appointment for tomorrow at the latest. Make sure she does have plenty of hay and her dry food and water within reaching distance. I would recommend ensuring that the hay is cut into small strands - no long strands as pigs with impaired mobility may be more likely to get their leg tangled in the long strands of hay, and less likely to be able to remove their leg from a tangle if that did occur.

What sort of cage does she live in - does it have a solid bottom floor? What has she been doing in the last day or two that could have caused this; was she allowed out for exercise time at all, or could she have jumped onto or off something inside her cage and injured herself?
Also, what is she fed? Plenty of fresh vegetables every day will help to ensure a good level of Vitamin C and calcium.

(P.S. I know this must seem worse than the Spanish Inquisition, so many questions - I promise I am not asking anything that isn't important and everything you're able to tell us will help us to help you help your pig. :) )
