I’ve just noticed my guinea pig has had watery stools- I know why- I have been giving him lettuce and I don’t know that you were supposed to introduce it slowly- I feel awful, he is all larthagic and is almost hiccuping, he has drunk some water, please someone help? What do I do?

Put some pellets in warm water and let them go mushy almost like a paste then syringe feed him some, or spoon feed and make sure he eats his hay as it will help his poops go solid again

As your guinea pig is lethargic then this is a medical emergency and you need to call a vet now for advice and hopefully an emergency appointment (I say hopefully as coronavirus has changed a lot of services).

I don't believe it's the lettuce that has done this or certainly not on its own. One of mine once overindulged on grass and got diarrhoea but it wasn't watery really just soft and liquidy but she remained her normal self, bright eyed and active.

Hi!

Please contact a vet clinic; this counts as an emergency - runny poos should be seen by a vet within 24 hours; if they are combined with lethargy as soon as possible. UK vets are keeping up an emergency service.
