Harry my lovely sheltie boar is not very well this morning. I spent yesterday in the garden and could hear a strange wheeking from one of the hutches, just the odd wheek, but like someone was in pain - but when I checked they were all ok. This happened several times.

This morning doing the rounds I found Harry with very bad diareah (sp!), and he had it on his nose where he'd tried to clean himself. I've cleaned him up and syringed some AviPro pro-biotic solution down him, i wasn't sure what else to do with him. He seems ok in himself and is eating, and he hasn't had anything unusual to eat. Any ideas?

Hoping to see vets ASAP

Let us know how he gets on at the vets x

Poor Harry you said he was looking peaky last night so sorry to hear he has a runny bum this morning hope all goes well at the vets major fingers crossed here he is such a lovely boy x

I'm sorry to hear that Harry is poorly. Please let us know how you get on at the vets xx

Just back from the vets, she gave him a shot of antibiotics and some baytril for me to give him and to carry on with the pro-biotic. She said just to feed hay for 24 hours so he's indoors with me by himself at the moment.. the girls will wonder where he is!

He only weighs 800g - I knew he'd lost weight but he's lost a lot very quickly :-(

But he seems in good spirits

Hopefully he will be ok. Witholding veg is best, just hay, plenty of water and pro biotic is best. If the diahorrea gets worse, take him back to the vets as he could have an internal parasite which needs septrin, most likely something disagreed with him or an overdose of grass :))

Thanks everyone. He hasn't been on grass at the weekend or had anything new or different to eat.. and his cage mates all seem fine (thank goodness!).

He's indoors and munching hay. He was so good at the vets, poor little love!

Well this morning we have started on the Baytril, 0.16 dose. He loves the AviPro pro-biotic and takes lots of syringes full of that (he won't give the syringe back though, he bites on to it like a dog with a bone!). Still runny poops but a couple of normal ones, and he's quite bright.

How long shall I keep him just on hay for?

He's indoors being a TV pig at the moment - I think he quite likes it!

Harry's taken a turn for the worse :-(

Harry is not so good this morning. He was quite perky yesterday, biting the bars and missing his women. But today he is hunched up in the corner and looks withdrawn. I've given him the baytril and some more probiotic but he doesn't seem to be eating or pooping. I gave him a bit of grass just to get him to eat something, which probably isn't very good for his tummy.

He's booked into the vets for 2. Meanwhile is it better to leave him just with hay or give him some Critical care or veg just to get him eating again?

Worried!
