Sat in the emrgency vet waiting room with Leonard :( hes off his back legs, in pain, runny bum... hopefully we're not waiting too long!

Theyve taken him out the back to check his glucose levels and to give him fluids, his temperature is low...hard to tell with Leonard whats normal chilled out and what is lethargic! But they dont like how calm he seems..

Well his glucose is a little low, we have option 1 which is leave him here overnight for him to get IV stuff and collect him in the morning...this is just shy of a months rent...and I want to give him that, but I dont think I can.

Alternatively we take him home, keep him hydrated, syringe fed, medicated and see how he fares...neither option is a guarentee for survival.

At this rate option 2 is looking like where we're going with. As much as I would lile him here to get the best care I dont think I can afford it. Hes out back getting IV stuff to start prepping him for the night. We'll be called back in soon I think. I forgot to mention I get disability and this is a PDSA vets...if that helps with things then option 1 is back on the cards.

Poor boy :( it would help if we could find a cause! Theres nothing physically wrong!

Poor lad! And poor you :( Would the vets consider a payment plan? It's got to be worth asking!
 
We're on our way home now..I didnt think to ask about a payment plan, damn. Hes been given painkillers, antibiotics, gut and appetite stimulants.

I'll be with him all night keeping him syringe fed, hydrated and warm. Will get him down to our own vets as soon as they open. They cant figure out what could be causing it...everything seems find and normal other than temp and glucose but even then theyre only slightly low..

Thankyou! We're doing ok at the moment, hes perked up a little, had about 45ml of critical care, some water and his poops are getting a little firmer. He has been able to push them out himself with a little help as well as move his back legs..so whatever the loss of feeling was about seems to be righting itself!

Ive got him tucked up with a warm water bottle in a sock, wrapped in a blanket, in a box of shavings and hay to hopefully stop his temperature dropping again. If he's improved this much in a few hours I hope hes even better by his 5am feeding. I still cant figure out how he went from happy and popcorning to this in such a short space of time!

Pleased he seems to be regaining some use of his rear end and he looks nice and snug in that box. Hope he continues to get better. Well done with all your syringe feeding it's what obviously has made him feel a lot better. :hug:
 
Hes got an appointment at 10:45 with our vets. Hes still with us, which is more than what myself and the emergency vet were expecting, just about to feeding him another 20ml of critical care which will make 80ml over night.

He still doesnt seem to be able to move around much under his own steam but I guess with more painkillers, antibiotics and whatever else he had for a few days he should come round, fingers crossed. His poops no longer stink now theyve got more solid too which I'm guessing is good.
 
Good luck with Leonard this morning at your vets.

PDSA emergency treatment is usually free if you are in receipt of housing benefit. They only charge for preventative treatment like wormer or flea treatment.

Thats what I thought but apparently the smallest animal they help with is rabbits..whether they meant just that clinic I dont know :/

Hes snug as a bug and we're off to his appointment. The receptionist seemed hopeful considering how bad the notes that were sent over were..

Right, we have some answers at last! UTI, Bladder stone or bladder tumor.

Hes got more antibiotics and painkillers, if he doesnt pee by himself by tomorrow or eat by himself, we go back and look at options. When the vet pressed his bladder a large amount of thick blood came out.
Hes gone from deaths door to reasonably perky overnight so I'm hopeful he can pull this out the bag. If he does well we go back in a week. Fingers firmly crossed..
 
That makes sense as my Johnny had a bladder stone and used to hop like a rabbit. Poor boy, is your vet going to do an xray or scan when you go back? the pain relief will be helping but the antibiotics will only deal with any infection caused by the stone or tumour.
 
Yeah he said he would do a scan to see whats going on, he has peed a little since we got home and so far, no blood and when I put him into a clean cage he shoved himself firmly under a pile of paper bedding so his mobility has improved a great deal.

I dont suppose you know roughly how much a scan and stone removal would cost, do you? I dont mind paying it, but itd be helpful to swap some money around beforehand if theres not enough left on my credit card
 
I know what you mean. At my vets a scan is about 60 but have not had an op done there. At the Cat and Rabbit clinic in Northampton a full eye removal was about 350 so I would say maybe anything up to 300 but others may say it is less than that.
 
Thanks, thats really helpful! I'll sort that after ive had a nap I think.. less than I was expecting which is always nice :) hopefully he'll be back to his old self soon and its nothing too bad.

Hes eating grass all by himself! Hes had a small bit of hay but ive had to push it into his mouth and be quite insistant with it. But hes tucking into the grass quite happily :)

Hes a lot stronger too, hes been leaning on my leg watching tv for a bit. And he actually ran along the side of the sofa. Bless him! Hopefully good signs.
