Please can you send some healing vibes for Maisie, shes been off colour for a couple of days still eating and doing all the things a piggy should do but not so much, a little bit pf a weight lose and tending to hide and sleep a bit more than usual. A vets visit was being sorted for tomorrow, this morning when I went to she her and give her a cuddle she seemed hotter than usual more grumpy and occasionaly giving little funny squeaks aswell as her tummy feeling strange. Took her to the emergency vets this morning, had a good prod and feel of the tummy -not quite right so an x-ray was taken. When they came back they were pretty inconclusive it looked as if she had free flowing food within the area around the stomach. It was decided to operate straight away to determine the cause. It turns out that her stomach was becoming sluggish and not shifting the food as quickly as it should (stasis) and also part of the intestine (caecum) was swollen and overloaded with food. Whether the intestine would have ruptured is anybodies guess. The vet thinks its to do with her intake of spring grass (it also happens in horses if they pig out too much). So at the moment she is on anti-biotics, pain relief and fibreplex and absolutly no greens at all - poor Maisie. Shes staying in overnight so fingers crossed she will be well enough to come home tomorrow.

Just spoken to the vets they are a bit concerned she was slow coming around from the GA, shes staying in overnight but was reluctant to eat so I took her some of her fav foods, gertie timothy apple and salad plus beetroot. When I got there she was looking very sorry for herself but I managed to get her to eat some beetroot. I just didn't like leaving her there but she needs more injections overnight and they are going to syringe feed cc so shes in the best place. I just hope she gets through tonight.
 
I've just spoken to the vets for an update on Maisie- Shes still not eating on her own but they are syringe feeding her, shes doing proper poops and scampering around when they check on her. Can I now be caustiously optomistic (oops sp) that the danger of a reaction to the GA is now over and I just have to worry about her original gut condition ?
 
Thankyou for your kind wishes Maisie and me really do appreciate them, she came back from the vets today armed or should that be pawed with pain relief, antibiotics and probiotics all should be well but it isn't. I changed the bedding and put a small amount of hay in there plus her bed let her settle for about 20 mins then put her cage mate in there to keep her company. To say there has been a change in her personality is an understatement everytime Pappy goes near her teeth are bared the head goes back and there is some squealing going on as well as chasing around the cage. They have been together I think since birth if not for at least a 1year. As yet no blood has been drawn but any ideas or advise would be gratefully recieved. Thanks

Maybe she's still uncomfortable and just doesn't want anyone near her? I'm really not sure i'm sorry.

I took Maisie for her post-op check, the vet was really pleased with her. Shes continuing with all her medication and we've got to back on saturday for another check-up. What I didnt realise was what a major op she had, all it said on the receipt was that she had a laparotomy ( I didnt think to google it to find out or even ask the nurse when I collected her on Monday I think I was just so relieved that she was coming home) I asked the vet tonight what exactly was done and what she did was to open up her abdomen check through all the intestines to see what was going on, they found a blockage of partcially digested greenstuff- cut open the intestine removed the blockage and the damaged tissue and sewed it all back together again. I find it amazing that she could actually do that on such a small animal and that Maisie actually managed to come through it all.
