peter my piggy is 5 1/2 he has suffered on and off with cowpatty poops (poss because he was the runt in his litter). He had bad diarrhea on tuesday so i took him to the vet who gave him baytil and a probiotic. His poops are now back to cowpatty but he has terrible sore wounds on his feet because he keeps standing in his poop. I bathe them twice a day with iodine and water and have started wrappping his feet up to keep them clean. He does potter around and eats, he is on a dry diet at the moment. But he is quiet small for an adult pig and so does'nt eat loads. Is there anything else i can do to make things better. The vet is concerned about his welfare(feet problems) and I don't want to lose another piggy. I've already lost 2 this year. Any help please?

he is just eating pellets and hay, some dryed dandelion and redigrass. No the vet did'nt say anything about culturing hie poos.

I would want to get his poo checked for what's going on if it's so bad it's making his feet sore. Can you talk to your vet about a possible culture as Abi_nurse mentioned?

Have you changed his diet recently? What was he on before the diarrhoea started? Did the vet suggest anything else for his feet as I think iodine is quite harsh on the skin over time.

Poor Peter :( I hope things improve for him soon

I hope things improve for him. please discuss getting his poo cultured for whatever may be causing the problem. What bedding do you currently have him on? Some beddings such as vet bed can be very useful for helping with soiling. it may also be worth contacting Gorgeous guineas. They sometimes have things that will help with the skin on piggies feet. Iodine is ok on skin, but I'm not sure about every day?

Thank you for your help. Spoken to the vet about getting a culture done. But unfortunatly Peter took a turn for the worst and despite rushing him back to the vets, he passed away last night. So broken hearted. This is the third piggy i've lost in 3 months due to either old age or illness. Really don't think I can take much more.

Really sorry to read this. Very sorry for the loss of your little boy.

RIP Peter
