I don't know what to do i went to a petshop today to buy a dog house and wandeed over to the piggy section the piggy that was there was there last week too, only last time it was labelled as a female this week it says Male so i asked them about it and they said it was a mix-up!the **** i have is that i don't know what sex it is and it has been in with both male and female piggies because of the mix upgrrrr which meens it has either gotten alot of females pregnant or it would be pregnant itself:(.It also has hair missing and some sort of skin condition that i pointed out to them and they said a new owner would probably take it to the vetmallethead.Should i be getting her or not? i walked away today because i didnt want to do the wrong thing and support what they do anymore, they also provide saw dust only,no hidey holes and a very small fishtank:(. also posted a thread a few weeks ago about a pregnant mouse which was to give birth in the petshop.Well she has given birth and against my advice the put another female in the same tank that had a litter too, obviously I'm sure you know what happened one mum attacked and killed two of the other babies8... they have since split them but how can i help them? sorry for going on but this piggy has really got me down:(

Your petshop sounds like its run by cowboys. I'm not sure how the Australian petshops are regulated but you seem to have a good relationship with your vet so maybe you could ask him/her for some advice. I'm sure they could point you in the right direction.

Unfortunately bringing the pig home wont help because they are clearly not sure what they are doing and he/she will soon be replaced by a group of more with the same issues. I dont know who you have spoken to at the petshop but maybe you could write a letter to the manager stating your concerns. This is better than talking face to face as they will have time to digest what you have said rather than getting confrontational. It also keeps you fairly anonymous so you will not feel you have to hide your face next time you go there!

If you do decide to write make sure you keep it factual rather than emotional and ask for a response to each of your concerns. Even if you dont hear back from them you may find that you have pricked their concience and that changes are made.

Good Luck and keep us updated.

thankyou that definantly sounds like i good idea:) yes some of the petshops here aren't great its more that they think they know better just because they work there when in fact the dont seem to know anything i am so worried as they have only been opened about 2 months and already stock puppies, kittens, fish, reptiles, hermit crabs, buns, guineas, birds of all sorts, mice, rats, crayfish and most recently added to the list chickensmallethead thats alot considering most petstores here dont have kittens or chickens i have found out that 2 stores now have chickens.the cate rehoming is generally done through the vet or rescue this petshop is just going over the top with animal species and they dont ask any questions about where the animals go either:(
