Hello everyone. Not been on here for ages but i need some help.

My 4 year old boar Josh is unwell, he's off his food (though i am hand feeding) he's got a slight tapping noise which seems to be coming from his nose, he's got a crust under one eye and generally not his normal self. I've read posts on here and think he's poss got a chest infection. I know he should go to the vet but its saturday evening and i just can't afford the costs. I have some baytril from another vet trip (another piggie). Would it be ok to start him on that till i take him on monday? Please don't think bad of me

Can you hold your ear on his throat, chest and nose and listen whether there is any sign of congestion?

You can get sudafed expectorant from the pharmacy (dosis 0.2ml) if there is congestion, in order to alleviate any symptoms. A dab of vicks or olbas can also help clear the airways and help with breathing.

Loss of appetite and weepy eyes can also be a sign of overgrown molars (back teeth) which is the reason why I am a bit reluctant to recommend your giving baytril without having seen a vet.

Thank you for the help but he just passed away in my arms. So rapid i'm in total shock. Rest in peace my little man xxxxxxxxx

I am so sorry for you - what a shock!

At least you were there for Josh, and he will have appreciated it. It's not much of a solace, but still a little one.

Oh my goodness what a shock! I'm so sorry for your loss! P.I.P little Josh x

I'm so sorry for your loss. You received good advice from Wiebke, and you did good to handfeed him when he went off his food.

Rest well, dear Josh. xx

Aww, I am so sorry to hear that poor little Josh passed away in such a short space of time. I would be in a dreadful state if that happened to one of mine. RIP little Josh and be assured your Mum loves you very much and vice versa for Josh knowing that you were there with him when he passed away. Take care. XX

Thank you everyone for your kind words. He was a great character with bags of personality. I'll miss him loads :(
