hi all. I am new to this forum. I have a sick piggy who we have been feeding critical care for 2days (approx 4feeds per day) I am now syringing water too. He has lost lots of weight and doesn't want to eat by himself. Does anyone have any other ideas , and also would syringing orange juice help with vit c ?

Hi Katys & welcome to the forum :) Is it possible to update your location at all? (UK/US etc) Has your piggy been seen by a vet at all? If not he really does need to see a vet if he is not eating for himself.

Hi!

Have you got a vet appointment yet? I am very sorry that this is happening over the weekend. Please have your guinea pig seen asap!
We have got a recommended UK vet locator on the top bar. Recommended piggy savvy vets in other countries you may be able to find via the Guinea Lynx link: Veterinarians - The GLX-Files
Please be aware that you can only try to keep your guinea pig alive with syringe feeding until it can be treated and healed (if that is possible) but that you cannot heal it. :(

Here is our step-by-step illustrated syringe feeding and water guide, which has lots of tips and a guide on the amounts necessary. Orange juice is not a good way of giving vitamin C. It is much better dissolving 1/4-1/8 of a human vitamin C tablet in 1 ml of water and syringing that. Make sure that you do not give more than half a syringe in one go; that is about a mouthful for an adult guinea pig.

I am very sorry and wish you the best! Please have careful read through our syringe feeding guide.

How old is your piggy? Did your vet look at the teeth, especially the back teeth?

Thank you v much...my piggle is Nearlly 4. I am just thinking that I ought to take him back to the vet as I don't remember her checking the back teeth.

At that age, it can be quite a range of things, so all we can do is just guess. Does he have any symptoms at all apart from loss of appetite or is it a mystery illness that has come on very suddenly?
