I noticed my lil Ginger wasnt eating and was very bloated looking. Took her to the vets earlier today. Hes given her an injection to help her poo and increase her appetite. Nothing has happened as yet... does anyone know how long this may take to kick in? Thnk u!

Hi and welcome to the forunm. I'm sorry to hear that Ginger is so poorly at the moment. Please bear in mind that poops indicate what was happening 24 hours earlier so it can take a while for them to start coming through again. It is also important that you step in with syringe feeding to keep the guts moving and prevent Ginger from going into gut statis which can be fatal. There is some really useful information for your situation here Bloat, Gi Stasis ( No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

Did your vet do any scans at all to ensure there wasn't a blockage?

Hello, I would recommend speaking to the vet to get some gut stimulants to give at home also. The injection will have been a dose that lasts 24 hours or so - Probably metachlopromide (emeprid)

Could you add your location to your profile it helps us tailor any advice to your location, has ginger every had anything like this before? Is she eating hay?

Neck & Shoulder RICE Bag Microwave Pad Pain Relief Micowavable Heat Pack | eBay

Could take a wile, the important thing is that you took her to your vet and he has given her meds
You could try warming her tummy, that often works for human baby's
If you could lay your hands on a microwaveable heat pad as above and warm it till it is just comfortable to the touch (not to hot) and lay her on it, it could help her to feel more comfortable, and with a bit of luck help break up some of the wind

If you do go back tomorrow then definitely ask for a scan as his guys might be moving but if he has a blockage then nothing is going to be able to pass and he will become increasingly in pain

If she starts to go downhill then please call your vet asap, they usually have the emergency vets number on their answerphone. Piggies are such delicate creatures and any deterioration would warrant an emergency. They do like to worry us. One my own is in the vets tomorrow to have an abscess lanced and marsupialised
