Junior Guinea Pig
my little louby lou 7 years old had been poorly for some time with a large tumour on her leg, the vet said that while she was still eating and loving us she was still "living" and that we would know when the time was right to let her go. she started to go rapidly down hill yesterday, would not drink or eat anything and just lay in her bed all day not moving. we nursed her all through the night expecting her to peacefully pass away but she was still alive this morning so we rang the vets and took her this evening but sadly she died in the waiting room. her sister / cage mate Stumpy same age was whimpering all through the night, I thought it was because she knew louby was dying but this morning I noticed she was whimpering when urinating so she too has been vets this evening. he suspects bladder stones but first wants her to have 2 days on metacam and baytril in case she has an infection. if no improvement Monday he will xray to check for stones. he says she is unlikely to survive another surgery given her age (she has had stones before) so is the alternative to have her put to sleep or can this condition be medically managed? also which one of these drugs is the pain killer and how long will it take b4 she feels some relief. I have given her both but next dose is not until tomo ! I'm so upset hearing her crying and I feel so helpless, any advise appreciated. many thanks as always xxxxx
