Ok this is a bit of an odd question, we had a piggy arrive in April last year he was part of the large piggy bank boar rescue.

Anyway he is a tiny piggy and he is quite skinny, he has minimal fur and is generally quite odd looking(sorry Gideon).

Originally we thought he had a fungal problem, but he has had baths for 2 weeks, and the vets tests for fungal which came back negative. He has also been treated for mites.

Is there anything else that we can try? he has been going to the vets since April but we are completely at a loss. We are wary of rehoming him and at the moment he is just sitting in a cage on his own which is totally unfair on him.

I will try and get some photos of him tomorrow

It's kind of hard to suggest things without pictures, but could it possibly be diet related? Or could he maybe he barbering? I helped get a pig out of an awkward situation - she was not fed enough and her life was kind of stressful, and when she became underweight she started barbering herself.

As he was part of rescue, I am assuming you have no background information for him? If this is the case, could it be something genetic may be?

I met a gorgeous piggy just last week who had a longish / pointy looking face. Her owner originally thought the piggy had dental issues but on closer examination, the pig in question is fine and healthy. It is just the way she looks.

This probably isn't the case but I just thought it was worth mentioning.

Thought I would add that it could be a nutritional thing with him, silver as you know came from the same rescue, his coat is perfectly fine but he is also a very skinny tiny pig, I thought he may plump out being with the girls and the oodles of hay and food I am slavedriven to giving them, flash the previous husboar did come to me with a weight issue and he gained steadily till he was a nice size. Silver remains supermodel waif like no matter what I bung at him to eat.

So having come from the same rescue source and being similar body type then it could be diet. Nearly had a suggestion on the skin thing but it went right out my head just as I was searching my brain for suggestions, it may come to me later.

Poor love being on his own, silver was I believe originally but he has come round eventually to piggie social status, sometimes still a silly boy but he is getting there, so fingers crossed someone can suggest things so he can finally find his forever friend.

Being skinny can just be a predisposition. However it may also be a sign of long term illness such as for example kidney disease etc. This may not be the case for sure, but without a blood test then you will never be sure.
