hi guys, my mums jinnywig dennis is quite poorly :( he was off his food yesterday, and very quiet and lethargic. my mum took him to the vets, he had a shot of antibiotic, and he gave him a course of baytril. he still hasn't been right today so we took him back to the vets, his teeth are fine. he's squeaking when the vet felt his stomach and he's abit hunched over with his hair stuck up so it looks like he's in pain 8... his poo's weren't very well formed and light in colour, but i think that could be because of the antibiotics and the fact he's hardly eaten. he's now been given another shot of antibiotic and some painkillers too. i've told my mum to make some poo soup to help his gut flora, especially now he's on antibiotics, and she's going to get some unsweetened cranberry juice to help in case it's a UTI. just wondering if anyone else has any ideas on what we can do to help him along with his meds?
taaa x

thanks, i don't know what pain killers he's been given. he's getting worse, my mum just text me saying he wont eat and is really subdued 8... sorry i didn't say on the last post, about a week ago she found a little bit of blood on the bedding, she said she checked him over and there was no injury that could have cause it and it hasn't happened since, but that's why i thought it could be a UTI. i have already told her to mush pellets and syringe feed but he wont take much of that either x

Get him Xrayed ASAP - he could have a stone as they can cause extreme amount of pain.

i mentioned that to the vet, but she had a feel of his tummy and whatnot and said she didn't think it was that. and she was the second opinion. i think mum needs to go to a new vetrinary surgery because they don't seem very cavy savy. thank you x

If you post your location on here we may be able to recomend a cavvy savvy vet for you.

Alternativly you could search the recomended vets thread at the top of our health and illness section :)

just to let you all know, dennis has eaten a little bit more today, mum's waiting for some critical care to be delivered and she's taking him for an xray tomorrow because i really think he has stones, and my mum wasn't happy with the vet either. i spent the morning making poo soup (yummy!)
