As you know Brian came to us on Monday, told as 8 weeks old but weighing and looking around 4 weeks. The same day I rang the vet about his crusty eyes and was given a course of antibiotic eye drops (Isathil). This evening he was rushed back to the vets as he had gone down hill rapidly while I was at work, snotty nose, worse eyes, lethargic. He's been given an injection of baytril and an injection of metacam (of which has perked him up considerably) and he's been given a course of baytril and is being support with recovery food through syringe by me. I'm currently extensively going over the syringe feeding guide. He's eating on his own but the vet was concerned with his current condition that it wasn't enough so he's just being supported at the moment. He's also getting the reccomended probiotic after the baytril. He's a very poorly man who's getting 1 on 1 TLC from me. Keep your fingers crossed and please send healing vibes!

Fingers VERY firmly crossed for your poorly little one!

would your vet consider bisolvon powder to help ease the congestion?

Hi Wiebke,

I haven't asked about bisolven but if I he doesn't improve during the night or deteriorates I'll ring them first thing in the morning. I do have a bowl of steaming water planned for later next to his cage. Is there anything I need to put in the water if I don't have bisolven?

Thank you

As he is so small, I would be reluctant to put any olbas oil in, even just one drop.
You can add some vitamin C (1/8 of a human tablet) and syringe him that.

But basically, all you can do at the moment is hope that the baytril is going to kick in in time and keep carefull syringe feeding and watering him.

Thankyou Wiebke. If he deteriorates or fails to improve I'll ask about the bisolven. The vets are more than happy to change his antibiotics if he needs them but have also warned it could be viral in which case its just supporting him as much as I can while he fights it off. The metacam certainly has perked him up.

Thank you! He's currently tucking into a couple of leaves of spinach, he's certainly picked up from his vets visit!

Hope he'll be ok Ruth. One tip for feeding, though you may have seen it in the guide - cut the tip off the syringe (making sure the plunger can't come out), it makes it much easier to suck the food up into it.

Thanks Helen, I've just read this and done it, ready for next time. I was wondering why is was so hard to do it! Now it sucks it up fine. Thank you :)

Brian is brighter this morning thankfully. He's eating on his own still which is brilliant, though I am supplementing him with a syringe feed in the morning and at night to give him an extra boost of the good stuff. I am hoping that this is him starting to kick in and fight more than the metacam still perking him up.

I'm sorry I've only just seen this thread. I'm really glad that Brian is making progress. Fingers firmly crossed for the little trouper xx

Brian is looking well this evening :) His meds are doing the trick. Nose snot has gone and eye gunk has mostly gone which is great as he can now see! still a little quiet but eating happily. Not out of the woods as its still early days but your healing vibes so far are working and much appreciated.
