At Easter Rosie had surgery to remove bladder stones considering she is 5 1/2 yrs things went very well and she recovered quickly. Checking on her weight this week I noticed it had dropped a bit so out comes the CC. Wednesday night she has a wet bottom, Thursday morning she has very smelly wee. I started her on metacam (0.2ml) and septrin (0.5ml twice daily). I took her to the vet this afternoon to have a check-up and she has blood and protein in her urine. She said to continue with the Abs and metacam and go back in a week. Surgery doesn't really seem to be an option given her age and because it has only been about 6 weeks since she had the first bladder op. The vet seemed to think if there was no improvement within a week there wasn't much else to do and I got the impression this meant PTs. I'm not ready to give up on her yet. So following all advice give on the forum - cranberry juice, low calcium diet, extra vit c is there anything else I have missed. She is on nutracys + capsules once a day. Thanks x

I've just made barley water for my pig with suspected bladder issues. Barley water sooths and helps to protect the bladder walls, from what I can gather. I don't know if it's appropriate or not in Rosie's case.
If it IS appropriate then you buy some pearl barley, boil it up and simmer for 30 minutes in an approximate ratio of 1 part barley to 8 parts water, pour the cooled water into a container and syringe it to the piggy. You can also mix some of the soft grains with veggies and liquidise it and serve it up.

I hope there are other meds that can be tried though.

You have my genuine sympathy, having lost a 'bladder' piggy, but I hope for a good outcome still for Rosie x

Just a very cautious update on Rosie. She has been on her ABs, metacam and nutracys for a week now. She has also been having 100mg vit c as well as diluted canberry juice about 30mls of extra fluid going into her daily. Her diet has been changed to low calcium foods as well as plenty of timothy hay. The grass has also been stopped much to the disgust of the other pigs. For 2 days now she hasn't squeaked when passing urine she no longer has the awful smell about her either. She has also gained about 50g. So I think she is heading in the right direction. So thank you all for your good wishes. Just one point though she lifts her self up/ straightens her back legs when going to the toilet. Is there any significance in this.?
