I am new to the forum so bare with me. I brought home 2 baby guinea pigs yesterday and this morning when I looked at them one had a sticky eye and has been sneezing. I have took them to the vet who gave them an antibiotic injection. But would like any other advice how I can make him more comfortable. Feeding him nuggets and hay. Given him carrot and cherry tomato fresh today. He is eating ok but lethargic and sleeping lots compared to the other one.

They should have noticed this when they sold them to you, they have a policy not to sell poorly guineas to customers.

Try some fleecy bedding instead of sawdust as the dust can get in their eyes and irritate it if they have an infection - and lighten up on the hay for the same reason.

Plenty of fresh veggies to keep them happy and healthy and a check up at the vets in a few days should be enough to keep the little one happy :)

- Also let him sleep as this will help him recover - but any worries straight to the vets!

Unfrotunatly not uncommon with PAH. Please make sure you get them to pay all vet bills and send a letter to trading standards about this.

Make sure that he is eating well, if need be mush some pellets down into a paste with some warm water. Please also could you weigh them both to check that they are not losing any weight in any way. Did you vet not give you a course of antib's for the baby?

Another quick quiery, as i do not trust the place, is please ensure that they are both the same sex. So many from the shop are missexed and pregnant.

x.

He is eating ok at the moment. He has had nuggets, seen him eating hay and carrots and cherry tomato. He has another appointment sat morn for another antibiotic injection if necessary.
Thanks for the advice on sexing will get the vet to check that on Saturday.

Fred on the mend

Fred seems to b a bit brighter today. He is eating lots and drinking his probiotic. He is even making noises and pushing Ginger out of the igloo. So fingers crossed he is getting better. He is still sneezing but he has a check tomorrow at the vets. Then I will be off to p@h for my fees reimbursed.:))

Welcome to the forum.

If you get the time please consider writing a letter of complaint to their head office. If enough people do it they will act.
