is saying 'Hello'

Remember my thread of my new Foster pig Pootle?

Poor little man weighed 552g when he arrived 2 weeks ago.
Since then He has gained well over 200gs :) Had a 'Pootle' around outside nibbling grass :) And had his first bath, as well as meeting other piggies here and here is is today.....

And now acting like a proper little Guinea Pig

Here he is 2 weeks ago. Under all that fur he was skin and bones with long curly nails, and being kept in a 2foot by 1foot cage by himself for 18mths of his life and basically forgotten about.

He and Foster Piggie Fidget are neighbours, and Fidget has shown him about how to act like a real Guinea pig, like doing the Motor Boat Rumble through the bars, and how to Popcorn and Wheek when Veggies are coming ooohhhhh he is so lovely xoxo

wow. He is certainly the most handsome pig I've seen! So glad he's learning to enjoy himself :-) x

Awwwww, he's adorable x)x)x) I'm glad he's being well taken care of now. Who could forget about a cute little guy like him :( Good for you for fostering him :)

Do BARC do piggy trains to the Ribble Valley? :) I know someone who wants to adopt a long-haired neutered boar from a rescue ;):p:(|)

LOL!

I think a sow would be more what I'm looking for... Unfortunately! I do have space for two boars, but I'm waiting for news on one that I won't get for a couple of weeks yet! Any other boar would have to be dated with my evil-pig... (unless the first boar actually gets on with evil pig... god my piggie life is complicated right now!)

Not kidding, I would have every guinea pig ever posted about on this site if I could... @)

I cant get over how cute this lil' guy is... x)

Oh wow, he is absolutely beautiful. He looks so happy too.

Pootle has the most adorable wee face ever, and a fab hairstyle too :<>x) How did you get the weight on him so well? I've got an underweight piggy who is gaining weight, but not very quickly, and he eats plenty?xox

I dont know about your piggie and the circumstances of him loosing weight or gaining weight slowly?
Has he been unwell? If he is gaining some its got to be good new though?

It wasnt that Pootle wasnt very well when he was handed over, they simply kept forgetting to top up his food bowl and his water bottle. And hay wasnt present in the cage he came in either. The bottle and bowl were the type you would have for a mouse. The bottle actually said 'Mice bottle' and his little bowl too, they was sooooo small. But because he was housed away from the family (in a type of outhouse or back passage I think) his last owners kept forgetting about him. The funny thing is now he is just obsessed about checking out his (large full) water bottle and gets quite excited that there is still water there!

So essentially he just needs a well varied diet, and he gets really spoilt with different 'posh' hays, and now he has other piggies around who visit his C&C when they have floor time. And Fidget another foster pig is just through the bars so he has lots of piggie interaction that boosts up confidence and wellbeing. Being indoor too so that he doesnt have to use any energy on keeping warm.

I dont think he'll ever get to a big weight because of his poor diet previously but as long as I know it wasnt anything medical that caused him being so thin, food and piggie company is what the doctor ordered :)p

Pootle is simply adorable! It is great that he thriving with your tlc and having regular access to plenty of food.

Piggies recovering from an illness or having an underlyning illness are often very slow putting on weight again. It also depends on the age. Pootle is a youngster in the growing period. If you have an adult or an elderly piggy, it is much more difficult to near impossible.

The previous owners said he was about 18months :{ And they got him from someone they knew whos Sow had just had a litter.

He is very friendly though even though he was forgotton about most of the time.

And his 'nickname' was 'Fat Mouse' mallethead

Of course under all that spikey hair the owners wouldnt have seen the extent of his weight loss and nails and the fact they didnt pick him up, as I was told "We don't pick him up so I dont know if he bites or not "

:(

He is adorable I also am loving his hairstyle, gorg..x)x)x)x)
