Sadly Tegyd has left us early this morning, passing away peacefully in the company of her closed knit little cataract piggy family. She's been battling major illness for the last few weeks and had started to slowly deteriorate again on the highest possible level of her meds.
Tegyd (formerly Mrs Taggy; her Welsh Tribe name is pronounced Tegg-id and means "beautiful like a doe") has had three very happy years with the cataract piggies group that I built around her, her beloved new best friend Taffy and their gentle rescue dated husboar Terfel.
While in Crawley Guinea Pig Rescue as an unwanted pet, she both lost her previous husboar Black Jack and developed cataracts, which made it very difficult to rehome her. Tegyd was quite a forceful personality who struggled to settle in with the residential rescue herd and with the Tribe, but she mellowed considerably once she'd found new happiness and fulfillment! She is the youngest of my three cataract sows at 5-6 years old, but she is sadly the first to go.
With her big pigsonality and her expressive face, she has featured in the 'Tidbits from the Tribe' stories in several Guinea Pig Magazine issues.
There are unfortunately far too many Tribe friends welcoming Tegyd at the Rainbow Bridge; so many of my older piggies seem to be stampeding there this year!
Terfel, Tegyd and Taffy soon after they met in July 2011
At the end of 1012 feisty little Mali joined the Trio
Tegyd adored Taffy, who had generously welcomed her when she arrived
But the two strong willed ladies also could occasionally have their little differences!
One of the things Tegyd loved best was to snuggle in the hay
But chin rubs were not far behind!
