Junior Guinea Pig
Today we said goodbye to our old lady Artoo ... who we always called Dee (as she was named after R2D2 from Star Wars because of the noise she made in the box on the way home!)
A long time before our rescuing days began, my husband and I went to the pet shop to get a pair of piggies ... we came back with three - Artoo, Gidgit and Squirt!
They always lived as house pigs, with run-time in the garden in the summer.
In December 2009 we lost Squirt (at almost 6 ) and Gidgit followed in May 2010. So that Dee wasn't alone we adopted two more elderly pigs from Alice at Windwhistle Warren - Maisie and Blizzy. Sadly Maisie was only with us for a few weeks but Dee and Blizzy formed a true friendship, later welcoming stray piggle Winnie to make a new trio.
As time went on Dee showed signs of being elderly .. but never lost her spirit or her chirp for a piece of banana skin! She had touch-and-go surgery in April to remove a large tumour - but came through fighting and, right up until lunchtime today, she was lively and active ... despite her failing body.
