Adult Guinea Pig
I'm heart broken to be saying I lost my boy Gerry today, the cheeky chap in my avatar picture.
Gerry had some teeth problems and had been up and down over the last couple of weeks with frequent vet trips. He looked like he was perking up until today when I found him all hunched up, hiding his face and heaving up water like he was being sick. I sat cuddling him hoping he'd pass peacefully until our vet came out of surgery and could see him.
I knew he was going to go and as horrible as it was there was no decision to be made, he was suffering so he was helped to the Bridge.
Gerry was just over 4 years old and came to live with me along with his identical twin brother George when I adopted them from the Wheek and Squeak rescue in August 2010.
The boys sadly fell out and were separated. It wasn't until they were separate that their big personalities really came out.
Gerry was the cheekiest little pig. He'd stand up at the bars tummy pressed flat against it so he could get as high as possible. I loved tickling that little tummy.
He was a big nuzzler as well, I'd put my hand in to sweep up and he'd nuzzle all up my arm.
Both boys went dating at Rabbit and Guinea Pig Welfare in Rugby to meet a (spayed) wife each. They came home with Penny and Poppy two sister who had fallen out with each other.
I remember when I first got them home. George and Poppy were very shy with each other but Gerry was humping Penny so much and got so over excited I though he was going to have a heart attack it was pounding so hard!
Gerry was always a very cuddly pig and I believe took great comfort in being snuggled up wrapped up in my cardigan on the sofa these last few days especially.
He's spent the last couple of weeks sat next to me on the sofa each morning while we ate breakfast together. When he'd had enough he'd just stroll over to my side of the sofa and leap for me then snuggle up under my chin.
I think you really do have an even stronger bond with a pig when you've had to feed and care for them when they are so poorly that saying goodbye is even harder.
Penny will move in with the trio she lives next to at the weekend. Her and Ash clearly like each other, I had been joking they were having an affair because she popcorns when ever Ash comes near her. She always loved Gerry though and is lying on his favourite tunnel.
Here's my gorgeous cheeky little boy. Gerry you will be very missed.

He was so good at posing for the camera.
