My 3 month old guinea pig Archie has been doing some strange things over the past week. I make sure he comes out for a cuddle every night and he loves his cuddles. Hes a very affectionate pig and is extremely noisy... he talks all the time!

He popcorns in his cage all the time but recently when hes been on my lap he jumps about and rubs his side on my lap and he jumps for about 2 minutes, actually he goes mad then he settles down then does it again. Ive checked to see whether he is hurt but can't find anything. Am I worrying about nothing?

mine did this you know at this age, and he is a boar too. he used to do it when i put him on the bed. i never got to the bottom of it but then he stopped. have you checked his fur for lice and make sure his skin is healthy. i think it could be jsut something they do when they are young! just double check for lice and mites though.

xx

my pheobe does it on my lap too! but its definately popcorning with her. it starts when i dont stroke her though!

Definately no lice or mites and his fur is very clean and soft, and no injuries because when he settles down after his "session" I can touch him all over and he just decks out and lets me stroke him.

sounds like my pheobe! she HATES being picked up,but loves being on your lap and popcorns on your lap, which's just on of her personaliy traits! she lies up me, head on my tummy and seems asleep, then all of a sudden she kicks my tummy whilst popcorning as she's really happy, then she chills and is all blissed out and happy. so cute!

sounds like hes doing a Scruffy. I wouldnt worry about ti. just dont hold him when he does it, i didnt with Scruffy. I am sure its just an expression of happiness!

So you don't think I have anything to worry about then?

My boyfriend seems to think Archie is just popcorning because he squeeks when he does it then settles down to be stroked and carries on squeeking. Either that or he seems to think he may be getting a bit "fruity" with me?! :))

yeah, holding them down isnt good,or easy!

it's almost like they are fitting! Sunshine, Pudsey and Twinkle are all like this! I sounds just like popcorning! :)

I had a piggie like that years ago, he was an abyssinian and used to do lots of vertical take offs and 180 degree turns. Eventually grew out of it.
