hi poppy has been making these strange noise if like she trying to break wind been going on for afew days any ideas if not i will take her to vets monday

Hello,

What kind of noise do you mean? Is it a gurgling type of noise?

Is her back end wet and sticky all the time? I'd be inclined to think that she may have a bladder issue. However I'm no expert on the subject. I strongly advise you to take her to a vet and be seen.

Is she eating and drinking well?

I'll let a more knowledgeable person on this take over with giving out any information and ideas on what could be wrong with Poppy.

Fingers crossed for her and I hope she gets better soon. X

Please see a vet on Monday; a sudden wet bum/tummy is usually the sign of a urine infection, a bladder wall inflammation (cystitis) and/or a bladder stone or sludge. The discomfort or slight gassiness when pooing is likely connected with that.

Make sure that she has plenty to drink until then. If you have got a syringe at home, please offer her water regularly, as much as she will take in one go. An adult piggy can take between 0.3-0.5 ml (max half a small syringe full) in one go; any more and you risk things going down the wrong way. Always wait until one lot has gone down before giving more.

Please weigh her daily at the same time in the feeding cycle, so you can get an idea whether there is some weight loss, instead of weekly as with a healthy guinea pig.

All the best! We have got a piggy savvy vet locator on the top bar.

Sorry I have been at a family event all day, I agree with everything that has been said. Hope she is feeling better soon.

ashes acting normal just making the noise and lifting herself up bit like breathing

poppy bit better still taking her to vets still the odd noise

thanks poppy has a uti bladder infection and cste on her ovaries she said not to worry about
i talk to gwen from a rescue place she said don't get them spade does not work

she give me bayril and metacam they did not have the metacam in stock have to go to pick it up tomorrow

There are alternatives to spaying for ovarian cysts such as draining or hormone injections, did you vet mention this at all?

If she is on Baytril you will need to give probiotics at least an hour after each dose to protect the gut. Do you have any probiotics?

vet did not benson spraying just getting metacam tomorrow as they did not have any no probiotics my friend has 7 guinea pig with ovarian cysts just got to keep a eye on them

ok just vet never said anythink or gwen from rescue place i know

A lot of vets don't realise unfortunately, especially if they don't see many guinea pigs. Most rescues know about probiotics though.

40 mixtures away i text her today no answear gwen did not say about probiotics
