You and Poppy must both be so relieved. I'm so glad it's turned out well for you.

Fantastic news that Poppy didn't need major surgery! What a huge relief, I am so glad it has been resolved so simply and quickly. That is quite a stone, Poppy must feel so much better now!

Now to get her bumblefoot sorted - something will help. :)

That's great news. Well done vet!

Hope her foot gets better soon too. :)

Poppy seems alot brighter today :) I was a bit worried yesterday as I heard her whimpering when having a wee, I think she must have been feeling rather sore inside. I didn't give her anything as the vet had given her an painkilling injection that lasts 48hrs. I did however give her some cystitis relief fluid yesterday and this morning which she has eagerly drunk. She seems to like the taste - was hoping it might make weeing less painfull. So far this morning I haven't seen her whimpering, so hopefully she is feeling much better :)

She was whimpering and holding her head up this evening when weeing 8... I am going to have to give her something for the pain she must be in :( I just want to check the dosage - I have some metacam 1.5mg/ml left over from when Teddy was poorly. Can someone please advise me on what amount is safe to give, and how often in a 24hr period, thank you :)

0.2ml twice daily seems to be the accepted dose rate for an adult pig.

Many thanks for that :) I will give her some now :) I'm presuming it is usual for her to have some pain after what she has been through. Is it possible she may still have problems? I did see her x-ray and the stone was as clear as day in the urethra before it was removed - could she still have problems in her bladder and would this necessarily show up on the x-ray?

Hey TR, sorry I've missed the latest updates. I am sorry Poppy is still in a bit of pain. I did find with Lottie that she was a little tender when peeing for a few days after the minor surgery, although I did put her on pain meds for a few days from the start anyway, which might have eased any pain perhaps sooner than if I hadn't.

Do you know if the vet flushed her bladder out at all? Giving her plenty of fluids by syringe would be worthwhile for the next few days, it can clear the bladder out a little and might help it heal a little easier. Bladder stones can recur but not so soon; the earliest I have heard is around four weeks after the first surgery, but if the vet flushes the bladder out (and thus any remaining crystals and "debris" ) it tends to lower the chances.

Hi Laura, the vet didn't flush her bladder as far as I am aware, I have however been syringe feeding about 6ml water every hour - 2 hours during the day. I have given her a day off the metacam today to see if she is squeaking anymore when weeing - so far no sign of squeaking today.
The bad news is although the bumblefoot which has reduced in swelling and the sore/scabbed area has reduced - I noticed tonight when putting the cream on there is a discharge/gooey stuff visible just beneath the scab. I'm not sure what to do about this? whether to leave it? up until today it looked like the cream - which is what the vet gave seemed to be making a big difference, it's futhithalmic - eye cream :{ I was also wondering whether to continue giving the metacam for the bumblefoot?

Keep her on the Metacam, hopefully it will control the problem. Rimadyl would possibly be a better drug as it is also for pain relief as well as being an anti-inflammatory.
See my last post on the "Help" thread.

Thanks for that AP :) Poppy's foot is dry and scabbed over again this morning and it has massively reduced in swelling - at least by half of what it was when we first noticed the bumblefoot - I really do think as odd as it seems the cream the vet prescribed has worked wonders :) I will commence the metacam again for her today :)
