I live in Scampton village, famous for the Dambust
I have been using happy soles foot ointment on Poppy's bumblefoot for around two weeks now and although initially it looked liked it was showing signs of improvement, now it looks swollen again :( The rodentologist gave me some Rimadyl to use which seemed to help, however, since we finished using the tablets supplied I wondered whether this was a tablet vets will prescribe? or an over the counter tablet you can buy?
I just wish it would get better for her :( the area is dry and scabbed over, but swollen like it was when we first discovered it :( She is kept clean every day on fresh vet bed, I dont know what else to do :(

I had a piggy with really bad bumblefeet recently. It took about 4 weeks to clear up. Like yourself kept her on vet bed. But she was on antibiotics (baytril). I just cleaned feet twice a day to extract any pus!

This was the first time I treated it so don't know if this is the best way!

Rimadyl is a prescription only drug.
Bumblefoot is notoriously difficult to cure. Antibiotics are basically a waste of time.
Local treatment is the usual approach to take. Manuka honey, Aloe vera ointment etc can all have a good effect.
There are threads already about bumblefoot on the forum.
In severe cases there can be bone loss, the swollen area can rupture and tiny pieces of bone can be shed from the area.
What you are doing already is appropriate, just carry on with the same treatment.
As I have said before, if you find a cure get it patented and then tell us about it!

Bumblefoot is a big problem!

Milly, who I adopted from the RSPCA had it for basically all the time she was with me. Bless her, she passed away a couple of months ago after I thought we had her cured of it. The last lot of antibiotics was for a whole month, twice a day, and it did seem to sort it. However, I am sure that amount of antibiotics for so long may have attributed to her sudden death. I can't say for sure and who knows?

I wish Poppy well. Sorry, I haven't any suggestions for you, just please keep us posted to how it goes.

I'm sorry things aren't clearing up for her just yet, TR. Will keep my fingers crossed that she starts to improve soon. x
