As many of you may know Pops has had ongoing dental problems for about 15 months now and for about five months was totally syringe fed She has made a huge improvement over the past few months and now eats totally independently and has gained lots of weight and now weighs around a kilo.

However, a few weeks ago Pops started to slow down. Her breathing didn't look so good and her ears lost their pink colour. She had very little energy and although she was still eating lots and holding her weight she wasn't the live-wire she had been. She was put on a course of zithromax and although she seemed to make a slight improvement she still didn't seem herself. Pops sister Skye has quite a significant heart problem and has been taking 1/4 of a Fortekor tablet daily for about a year now. Skye had initially shown the same symptoms as Pops was showing now, but on examination she was found to have a heart murmur and arrhythmia . Pops heart sounded good and we initially extended the course of antibiotics. After discussion with Simon, my vet, we decided to try Pops on the Fortekor tablets too. The improvement has been quite significant. She is now back to being the cheeky little madam she always was. She loves dashing around the lounge chasing Skye and winding up poor Patch, by peeping into his cage and then running off when he comes over to see her.

Obviously there is no way of knowing if this improvement wouldn't have happened anyway, but it does seem to have coincided with the start of the Fortekor.

It's just so lovely seeing my special girl back to her old tricks!

YAY! I've been following Pops and the treatment you have done for her. Pleased she's running about again! Great news :)

If only more vets would have the sense Simon has had!

Great to hear how well she is doing now, I am sorry you had a shaky few weeks with her though.

She was looking so well, but I knew she wasn't right. When I took her to Simon a few weeks ago I said I was concerned, and he immediately picked up on the fact that her ears were looking rather a muddy colour rather than the usual pink, also her eyes didn't look so bright. She hadn't lost any weight and was eating well, but we both agreed she wasn't herself. Her breathing didn't look quite right either.

If Pops does in fact have a heart problem, does this suggest that heart problems in guinea pigs are hereditary I wonder, taking into account Pops and Skye are sisters.

Whee are thrilled that our very very special little sister is feeling so much better xoxoxoxoxoxo, whee know our mummy is jumping up and down in glee reading this over our shoulders ;)

Pops Possum i'm so relieved to hear that your back to your sweet normal self again, bless you little one, loves you so much xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

I'm chuffed to bits she's back to being Miss Pops but it does make you wonder if heart problems are genetic & also just because a heart "sounds" fine doesn't always mean it is. In this instance thank god Skye's isn't normal :)
