Porridge Oats Safe For A Guinea Pig With Ic And A Guinea Pig With Diabetes?

I used to occasionally feed my past guinea pigs plain porridge oats mixed in with their pellets which they enjoyed. Emma has IC and Ellen has diabetes which is controlled by diet. Due to their health issues, I feed a low calcium / sugar / carbohydrate diet with limited nuggets and unlimited hay.

I'm just wondering if plain porridge oats are safe to feed or not?

I used to feed oats. I actually had no problems but I recently found out from an expert that they are very bad for gut bacteria in small herbivores. Due to the structure of the oats it actually causes some bacteria to multiply too much and can cause bloating and diarrhoea or worse. I now steer clear of oats since knowing this.
