I have some Porridge oats and i know piggies can have them as a treat, i just wondered if i can give them to them straight out of the packet? As in they dont need baking dry first? They are Scottish Porridge oats too, does that make any difference?

Thanks xx

You can give them to them dry, but not too many or you'll have some tubbies on your hands. The nice big rolled oats are best, I had some for Moonpig ( r.i.p Princess) when we were trying to help her gain weight, unfortunately she didn't like them ( the other two do though ).

We tried to fatten Tiffypig up on them, we mixed them into some Ellas Kitchen fruit/veg puree. That was a BIG hit. Would make a good treat!

Would they be allowed gluten free porridge oats? Thats all I have at the moment but I'd like to treat them. Also do they have to be dry?

I wouldn't personally advise feeding oats unless you're trying to actively encourage weight gain. Fat pigs may look cute, but it does nothing for their health, much the same as humans.

A couple of mornings this week I've tried the warm bran mash recipe (oats, bran, grated beetroot and grated carrot) and it's gone down a treat! I do watch my piggies' weights closely, but I personally feel that my outside-dwelling piggies need the extra calories and Oscar could do with putting on a little more weight. And, it's all about moderation - I'd much rather they had a treat of a few porridge oats than the sugary pet treats that you can buy.

They went down like a lead balloon anyway, they all got excited and one by one stuck their head in the dish, turned their nose up and came up to me as if to say "mummy they are not green and taste of cabbage, nor are they hard and taste of blackcurrant and oregano - we will not be eating them, now go and get some vegitibbles"

we're trying to gain weight on one of our girls and I find making the oats up with water into a plain porridge, putting a line of said porridge (once cooled to a warm temp) in the middle of a dandelion leaf and then rolling it into a guinea cigar is a great way of getting them down!

I don't condone the use of cigars on guineas.. though a guinea version of a mexican drug baron does make me squeee.

Haha! :)) Nevermind, Harvey loves his oates, Artie doesnt mind them but he'll eat them now and then, cobys a huge fan and tabby has off days with them :)
