Hi All,
I took Sunshine, Twinkle and Cuzzy the vet this morning for their claws to be clipped and to check they where all boys! I took Twinkle in a small pet carrier as he isn't over keen on being closed in with other piggies at the moment. I put Sunshine and Cuzzy in together as their pet carrier was bigger. I put some hay in each and off we went. Sunshine and Cuzzy where a little frightened of the passing cars but I kept talking to them. Twinkle was very calm, he takes everything in his stride bless him.
Once inside the vets the boys were fine and not long after we were called in. The vet checked each pig over and made sure they are all boys which they are. It's such a relief. I said I got them from pet shops and I know they can't be trusted, he agreed but said the pigs were in fine condition.
I asked what breeds they were and how old would he say they were, Sunshine is 18 weeks and is an aby, smooth cross. Twinkle is 4 months and is a peruvian, could be crossed but not sure as yet. Cuzzy is 3 months and is a Sheltie. I wasn't sure what Twinke was, he does have all the markings of a peruvian but his fur is quite waxy and sticks up.
I think Peter (hubby) was feeling left out as Sunshine is my pig, Twinkle is Emily's and Cuzzy is Caitlin's so he wanted another. I wasn't keen because my boys are doing ok and as much as I'd love another I'm holding back until I can get a shed and can accomodate them better. However, we decided to make a day of it as we've been up to our necks in DIY so a day off was needed. We went to a Pet Centre on the Wirral which was also a Garden Centre. Seemed a nice enough place, really cheap fo runs and hutches as well as cages. £30.00 for a large indoor cage although P @ H do a similar one with more accessories for the same price! That is something I have to get for the winter!
We saw some guineas that were in with the rabbits, they didn't look well cared for at all but I bought another igloo and some guinea pig stickers for Emily. We then went to Pets at home as I needed a Hay Rack and finally managed to get one, I've been looking for them everywhere!
Then we went to a better P @ H, the first one stunk of animal food and although it's improved I wouldn't buy animals from them. I managed to get some Timothy Hay with Herbs! I've also got a better type of food for them with added vitamin C as they didn't like the tesco brand and I got them some sticks for their teeth.
Oh I meant to say that I told the vet they weren't eating carrots, which I found bizarre. He said to use a carrot peeler or grate the carrot and see how they get on. Well I used the carrot peeler and came back tonight to find most of the carrots gone! I should also stagger the veggies as if I give them all in one go they go for their favourites and leave the ones they don't like. Perhaps Carrots in the morning when they are really hungry. I also got some flat leaf parsley which was only 64p in Tesco.
So today has been a completely over the top spoiling the boys day! Peter says I go over board, I know I do but I love my boys. I love to spoil them! They are so worth it! :-D
Just thought I'd share,
Louise
