Had to take Sammy, my white piggy to the vets this morning as when I went in to see them she seemed not right and was off her food. I knew something was wrong, and after feeling her she felt very bloated.

Have taken her to the vets and her heart seems ok, and no cysts on her ovaries but they have given her an injection to try to get her bowel moving as think it could be blocked. I have come into work and got to go home early and take her back at 5pm.

Just hoping and praying she is ok.I am 3 months pregnant and keep 8...my eyes out and just keep saying "Come on Sammy".

Has anyone any experience of this kind of complaint and can it be cured?

If it does not work, they will likely keep her in and x-ray her

Thanks

Lewpy xx

Sorry to hear Sammy is unwell :(

It sounds like the vet suspects she may have bloat... Bloat stops them from eating as they get gas trapped in their tummies. Did Sammy look bloated? Has she stopped pooing? No poo is a sign of bloat.
Often if you tap the side of a piggies tummy who has bloat it will sound hollow.

As long as their is no physical obstruction in the bowel the Gut Stimulant injection will hopefully get things moving again. You can also give her tummy gentle massages to get the gas moving are out of her system.
It is worth speaking to the vet regarding having some gut stimulant such as metachlopromide to syringe orally at home to keep her guts moving over the next few days until she has fully recovered.
If it is bloat just feed her hay and dry food until she is pooing again and then introduce veg again slowly avoiding gassy veggies such as Cabbage, Brocoli, Cauliflower, green beans, kale etc...

An x-ray is advised if the vet suspects bowel obstruction due to anything other than gas.

Hope Sammy feels better soon, let us know how she gets on.

I'm sending Sammy some healing vibes. Hope things are ok when you go back to the vets. She's a lovely little piggy xx

Thanks everyone :)

Got home after work as left early and feared the worst, but put some hay in the cage and she started to eat it. Took her back to the vets where she got a thorough examination and no lumps, and she listened to her tummy and could hear gurgling noises which is a good sign. She gave her another injection.

Got home and have just been giving them hay and pellets and will probably do this til tomorrow morning to play it safe then slowly start introducing food.

This morning she was inquisitive again and tucking into food and drink :) I am so so so happy as being pregnant yesterday I was an emotional wreck!

Thanks for all the positive vibes xx
