Hi peeps' Wondering if you wonderful people can help us

One of our piggies seems to be developing blisters on her lips. We have 2 sows and they are both in the same cage, fed the same foods and AFAIK from the same litter.

They have for the past two days been grazing outside in the sun for 10-20 mins per time and nibbling grass Cud this be the cause? We've read about all the danger foods, low vit c foods ET AL.

They are regularly fed on lincolnshire curly kale, fresh corn cobs, celery, cauli leaves, cucumber and for the past 3 days have been enjoying mange tout.

Is it possible she may have an allergic reaction to the grass or mange tout? Any advice you could give would be really appreciated we are gettin worried :(

Thanks in advance

Do you feed them any sort of fruit? Citrus fruit and apples are common culprits. It could also be an infection called chelitis - http://www.guinealynx.com/cheilitis.html

I'm curious as to where you live that the pigs can go outside at this time of year. It is far too damp and cold for them to be out on the grass if you're in the UK.

They haven't had any form of fruit recently

We live in Yorkshire and they have been outside on the grass while we change their indoor bedding which takes roughly 10-20 mins as soon as the cage is clean they go back in

But I've just remembered that I've just bought a new cage cleaner a couple of weeks ago is it possibly this?

Could it be some sort of injury from a bite? Do you have a pic of it?

It's been lovely here in Liverpool today, very spring like. I was tempted to put the pigs out but once I cleaned them out I didn't have enough time! ::)

I doubt it's the new cage cleaner. Personally I would get them seen by a vet.

Please be careful putting them out this time of year, especially if they are indoor pigs. While the air may seem warm the ground is very, very cold and damp which can cause serious problems in pigs.

I do agree with that DSL, I see sun and think its baking! :D But it is still chilly, it was freezing here the other day so we are not quite ready for putting them out. I live in a valley as well and it is always a couple of degrees cooler! :)

thanks for the input have applied diluted antiseptic and put some small animal antiseptic ointment on. They don't appear to be causing her any discomfort she's still tucking into the fresh veggies and drinking her water (as loudly as usual ::)) I'll definately refrain from puttin them in the garden while cage clening and see if this helps and will try a trip to the vets Thanks peeps

I cant imagine its a bite injury. They squabble (loudly I might add :D) and jump on each other but they dont tend to have fisticuffs (or pawsicuffs!) as far as I know of
