Hello
This is my very first post on here so forgive me if it is not right or in the wrong section.
I have 2 lovely female Guinea Pigs and they are 6 months old and I have had them since they were 6 weeks. I have noticed a few weeks ago that Wisp has a flappy bit under her chin, I researched and found out about Dewlaps but I’m not sure if that’s what it is. It feels soft to touch not like a lump or anything. She didn’t have this before and (I’m sorry if this sounds dump) it feels like she only got this as she has gone into 6 months so therefore an adult Piggy. I also wanted to ask does 6 months officially count as an adult Piggy? Because I have seen some places say it is but some say a year is. Because they are normal weight for an adult Guinea Pig which I believe to be between 600-100g? But according to the chart I put on below in weeks they aren’t quite at the correct weight for their age. They are both in 800gs. Mainly just wanted to ask if that is a dewlap and if it needs checking. I don’t know how much it is to take Guinea Pigs to the vet but was also thinking now they are 6 months just to go and get them to checked out just to see everything is good? They seem perfectly happy eating pellets hay and veggies of course. I am just always worrying about them as they now my whole world and want them to always be ok 🙃

Thank you

Welcome to the forum

There is no such thing as the right weight for their age. The healthy range for adult weight is 600-1600g but Weight is only an indicator that they are eating enough to either grow if they are young or maintain once they reach their adult weight.
Piggies will reach their final weight in their own time.

The way you determine whether they are a good size for themselves is by checking their heft. Essentially this is putting your hands around their ribs and seeing how much rib you can feel. I will add a guide below which explains this all fully.

Piggies are still considered teenagers until they are 15 months of age

In terms of the dewlap - that doesn’t look like a typical dewlap to me and I would suggest you do have them seen by a vet. It never hurts to have a general check up anyway

Thank you so much for your reply. I will have a check for their heft. I didn’t know they are still teenagers till 15 months as Kavee says 6 months they are adults but other places say a year. I will definitely get her (and her sister) checked. For some reason I can’t see that first link you put. Thank you again.
