Hi all, I recently posted about my 11 week old sows about taking them to the vets as they had bald patches with scabs, in which the vet said its mites. I researched into this and found out that many vets generally misdiagnose this problem as 'mites' but it actually is fungal. Now ive seen an ointment from 'gorgeous guineas' and wondered if that was any good to help get hair back and relieve any sores they may have? Or is there any other ointment I can use for them? IParticularly don't want them to have anything strong on their skin as they're babies after all and don't want them to be licking at it (as some patches are near their noses).

Hi! Could you please add your country to details (click on username on the top bar, go to personal details and then scroll down to location). We see so many people from all the world in this section and it really matters re. medical brands, climate, vet accessibility etc. It would also help if you please posted a picture of the issue in this thread.
https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/how-to-post-photos.112751/ or copy/paste a picture that you have uploaded elsewhere on the internet directly into your post.

We do not support home treatment on spec; there have been too many cases that have gone horribly wrong, at the worst ending with a fatality or prolonged major suffering. If you are not happy, can you see another vet? We have got a UK piggy savvy vet locator on the top bar but may also be able to provide recommendations for other countries.

She's so cute!
This looks very similar to something my Coco had - photos in my post if you'd like to see. I think it could be fungal - we treated Coco for both fungal and mites, just to be sure. We also did thorough cleanings of their cage. Coco was also about 10 weeks old and we were so worried. Luckily, she's all okay now.
I completely agree with Wiebke try and see a cavy savvy vet if possible and get a proper diagnosis!
We made a mistake of going to a normal vet and spent a lot of money for nothing, and we had to treat ourselves at the end.
