Poor Stripe (4yo rex boar) is off to vet as emergency. Found him this morning, shivering, drooling, heaving (as piggies can't vomit) and with distended belly. He was fine yesterday. Fortunately have managed to get appt at Dick Vet in Edinburgh in an hour, so keeping fingers crossed. Not looking good though - pls send healing vibes!

Meantime, apart from keeping him warm, is there anything else I can do? Don't want to do anything with syringe in case it is a blockage which I think wd make things worse.

Fingers firmly crossed! Good that you can take him to the vets asap; best of luck!

Fingers crossed for you I had the same thing a while back, I was advised by vet to give a 1ml dose of liquid paraffin to help ease the blockage through, it seemed to work but maybe something you should check out first xx

So sorry poot little stripe didnt pull through xx

Thanx all.

I am sobered by how quickly this all happened. From fine, eating, pooping and well to dead in 12 hours. Although the vet said there must have been other issues to cause his death so quickly, I think everyone should know how quickly piggies can deteriorate to the point of no return from gut issues.

I hope others will remember this if they are ever tempted to put off a vet visit for gut issues.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my Poppy to gut torsion last year, within 12 hours she went from eating normally, healthy (albeit elderly aged 7) piggy to passing away in a horrible way :0

From finding her hunched up in the morning & getting her emergency help within an hour & a half I lost her, so I know how you are feeling right now.

RIP Stripe, run free at the Bridge little one.
