Hi everyone, wow it's been ages since I posted here!
I wanted to get back into the swing of things here a little nicer but it seems winifred has a heart condition from what I've read? She's making an odd sound that's different to usual, it sounds almost identical to the 'exploring sound' they make, except its a lot deeper and as these guinea pigs are in my room, I can notice when something's different. It isn't hooting as I've looked that up and heard what it sounds like, but I think it could be an earlier stage of it? Of course my parents need some convincing to take the piggies to the vet as per usual because they don't want to take them if there's no problem, so I wanted to know if anyone's experienced this before and has seen what it develops into or does it go away?
Also if you could let me know any ideas you have of what caused this, I'd be so grateful. Thank you!

@winifredandalp How is she otherwise? Eating okay? Acting normally? Weight okay?

How long has she been making this new sound? Any chance that you could get a video of it?

She's only been making this noise since I woke up which was exactly an hour ago, she's eating normally, coming out of hideys, interacting with me and Alp, everything else seems ok. The next time she does it I will, but she hasn't done it since.

@winifredandalp I wonder if she's inhaled a bit of hay or something. Sometimes they make different sounds or sound a bit grunty if something went up their nose.
She has had haypoke before so I wouldn't be surprised if she got some hay lodged elsewhere. I'm cleaning their cage out later so I'll make sure to look and see if there's anything stuck in her nose! I'll update you when the time comes, thank you!

This is definitely hooting to me. It’s the worst it’s been all day and stopped shortly after. Advice?

there you go, it’s the worst it’s been all day :/ definitely just gonna say to my mum she straight up needs the vet, she tried to pin her illness on me as per usual.

Still would appreciate any help as I’ve read a thread that says their guinea pig was fine, but I have a bad feeling winifred won’t be

It sounds more like something up her nose. I can't watch the video as my work is blocking it. How are they in themselves? any laboured breathing? weight loss?

Alp isn’t having any problems, but I can hear Winifred breathing from across the room. I haven’t heard her hoot since I came back from school so hopefully it was just a piece of hay!

My piggy Harold was making a hooting noise when he breathed on and off for a good week. I took him to the vets and they could not hear anything in his chest. But it got worse and I could feel it rattle in his body until he coughed and that cleared it for a while. He was given a week's antibiotics and now he's great no more hooting or coughing. I was worried as i have had a piggy with heart failure.
The vet thought it sounded like kennal cough.
