Hiya, I am concerned about Arrietty, who is (approximately) 2 years old. She has been rumble strutting around my 2 other pigs at least once a day (that I notice) when she is not in heat and rumble strutting a great deal when she is. She has always been a bit of a flirt, and I have been keeping an eye on her for the last few months or so (I can't remember precisely) also her nipples look swollen too I did suspect ovarian cysts at first but then I realized her hair isn't coming out at the sides (although I know ovarian cysts can happen without hairloss). She has lost about 100g but isn't losing anymore I don't think. Do you think its anything to worry about? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you! 🌻🌷🧡💜💚💛

Hi

Please have her vet checked for hormonal ovarian cysts, for which she is at a classic age with very typical behaviur.

Most of the times you do not get any hair loss, in fact. Hormonal behaviour and crusty nipples are the most common symptoms but the majority of cysts does never cause any noticeable issues and goes unnoticed. The majority of sows will get them at some point of their lives although in older age the large fluid filled ones become the most common.
