New Born Pup
Hello!
Nelson, my 3 year old neutered boy, sometimes seems to have a lot of his soft poos in his perianal sac. It doesn’t seem to stop him from passing his normal poos (and it’s squishy and not hard), but occasionally when I check his bum and bits I’m noticing it seems like a lot, so am gently removing it.
I’m wondering if it’s normal for them to “store” some there for a while (and it just so happens that i’m checking it at a built up time), or if this could be a sign that he’s starting to have some sort of muscle-tone issues and an early sign of impaction problems.
For reference i usually give his bum and bits and inspection about once a week, but i’ve not been so good at it recently. He’s also had quite a bit of smegma built up around his penis when i checked it this week - which isn’t something he’s had much of a problem with before.
He was neutered in January this year, and had a slow-ish recovery and higher than expected pain levels afterwards. He definitely wasn’t great at getting his soft poos out then, but he eventually recovered fully and went back to normal.
I have read the boar, bits and bums post recently but I’m unsure if I’m being paranoid or if these are actual changes/problems that I should speak to my vet about. (Also kicking myself for not having checked him properly for a while because now i’m struggling to remember what he normally looks like down there!)
Any thoughts from anyone experienced in boar bits?
Thanks!
