In a feat of pure, unbridled willpower, I went to Pets at Home today for emergency hay and did not bring any guinea pigs home.

I shouldn't have looked; they were so cute 😭 Usually I'm okay because I don't have any room but it was so darn tempting today.

My husband was not suitably impressed when I got home so I've come here to brag to people who understand the struggle :)) We've hopefully got a lead on a playdate with a rescue about an hour away though, fingers crossed they all get along!

Well done have a medal!🏅I don't like the small see through "cages" they now have at PAH. There isn't enough room for the number of piggies they have in them. When I've been to my local PAH there have been up to 6 babies in a space smaller than my Ferplast 120 and that is the minimum space for 2 females.

Comet and Blitzen were in one of those see through cages, although tbh you could only see Comet because Blitzen wasn't showing his face for anyone (and then when they were being sexed before I brought them home he tried to bite the guy, lol). Thankfully the last time I did an emergency hay run, I'd called them beforehand so they had it sitting waiting for me and I just had to pay for it. Much less dangerous than having to walk past the tills into the actual shop :))

Well done! There's a very lonely single in our P@H, I nearly brought him home yesterday. I got desperate for a friend for Brillo a few years ago and asked about buying a single. I got a very heated lecture about them not selling single piggy's which is fair enough but then they sell singles! I am waiting for a decision from the rescue about a foster I have here at the moment. If my request to keep him is a no I want that little piggy at P@H so I need an answer quick. :hb: I don't like buying from P@H but sometimes ...........

It wasn't big enough but it was bigger than that, at least. I think there were four babies in there (could only see three in the house but there was some unexplained hay movement in the corner...). There were a couple of ladies in the queue behind me, one commented about how timid they were... like of course they're timid! Prey animal nature aside, there's a lot going on in a pet shop and a giant head looming next to them isn't going to help. In fairness to them, the other lady did say basically that in response.

Me neither, but it's not the piggies faults they were born to be sold in a pet shop. If this play date doesn't work out I'll be going back!

That level of will power deserves several medals.
Hope the play date goes well

Micah was a PAH rescue - he’d been labelled as having to live alone because he couldn’t get on with other guinea pigs!
I was very restrained as the staff told me why - he’d been bullied.
They then proceeded to tell me how to look after him.

He’s lived very happily with his sows ever since.

@piggieminder - I’d just go get that single pig and give it a great home.
